Tom Gruwell

Tom Gruwell, former principal of Burley High School, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona. He had been living with his daughter, Jeananne, and her husband, Charles, in Apache Junction, Arizona for the past six years.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where a viewing for family and friends was held from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral. Burial was in the View Cemetery.

Directions to View Cemetery
To reach the cemetery from Burley, start at Overland Avenue travel south on State Highway 27 towards Oakley, Idaho, make a left-hand turn on 500 South traveling straight until you reach 650 East. Make a right-hand turn on 650 East and travel south (about a mile) until you reach a 4-way stop that intersects a gravel road. Turn left onto the gravel road, which will be 600 South. View Cemetery is the first place you will come to.

Richard Saldana (1973)

As principal, Mr. Gruwell was a fair and caring man. Those of us who were lucky enough to have met or worked with Tom came away the better for it. I worked for Mr. Gruwell as an aid in his office and later as a teacher's aid at the high school. I am saddened by his passing and wish to extend my condolences to Tom's family.
