GRANGEVILLE • Lynn Burton, 60, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, in a motorcycle accident involving a vehicle in Grangeville, Idaho.
Lynn was brought into the world Feb. 1, 1954, in Burley, Idaho, to Gale and Arlene Burton. He graduated from Burley High School and continued his education at the University of Idaho.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Burton of Grangeville, Idaho; sons, Billy Burton of Dillon, Mont., and Chris and Bryan Dettmann of Virginia City, Mont.; daughter-in-law, Ashley Dettmann of Virginia City, Mont.; grandson, Riley Bridger Burton of Walla Walla, Wash.; mother, Arlene Burton of Burley, Idaho; sisters, Karen Burton of Pocatello, Idaho, and Chris and Roger Piper of Spring Creek, Nev.
Lynn was a leader in his field of rangeland management, noxious weed control, habitat restoration and working to fight forest fires every summer. Lynn recently retired after 38 years of service with the Forest Service spanning several western states. He deeply enjoyed being able to work with people and care for our natural resources throughout the many locations he was based. Lynn had a big heart. He was a true philanthropist, caring deeply about his environment and those he came in contact with. He volunteered to help at every turn with no return expectations, only knowing that he had helped make the world a better place. Lynn loved the game of golf, always working to improve his game. He lived for high country elk hunting, fishing of all sorts, hunting birds and observing native plants and animals. He is a beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and brother-in-law. We will surely miss such a wonderful man.
Lynn would have liked any remembrances to go to the Grangeville Golf Course or Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
A memorial service in his honor was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 at the Grangeville Christian Church in Grangeville, Idaho. Services were under the direction of Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.
