In Memory

John West - Class Of 1973

RUPERT — John Raymond West, 57, of Rupert, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at his home.

John was born Oct. 18, 1954, in Kingman, Ariz., to Earl West and Wilma Fern Ballard. He graduated from Burley High School. He has two daughters, Amanda and Kristal, from his previous marriage. On Aug. 5, 2006, he married his soul mate, Debbie Mancias. John had a small farm and ranch and worked in the trucking industry.

John was a man who wore many hats but mostly his beloved cowboy hat. He was a carpenter, craftsman, mechanic and, above all, a family man. He was used often for heavy lifting, fixing things or to reach something others couldn’t reach. He was always willing to help with a smile on his face. He also enjoyed lending a shoulder to cry on, or an ear for listening. John knew no strangers and treated everyone fair and with respect. John was not one to pass judgment. He was a kind and forgiving person. John always tried to surround himself with horses and babies. If either one was in sight, we knew exactly where to find him. John will be missed by many. We were all blessed to be a part of his life.

John is survived by his wife, Debbie West; his children, Amanda West Bailey and Kristal West Ortega; and by marriage to Debbie, children, Flor Mancias, Rocky (Mirella) Mancias and Emmett Mancias; grandchildren, Isabel Mancias and Mia Mancias; sister, Nancy Weech; many nieces and nephews; and many beloved in-laws. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Carol Abrams; and brother, Stephen West.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Mountain View Christian Church, 317 W. 27th St. in Burley. A viewing for family and friends was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 at Hansen Mortuary, 710 Sixth St. in Rupert.
