Rick died in the fall of 1981 shortly after transferring to Boise State University from University of Idaho for his second year of pre-law. He was climbing up a light tower on the football stadium when he slipped and fell. He had just returned from a drive across the United States that summer as an adventure and was settling into the new school year.
