Robert Sorensen - Class Of 1971

Robert Glen Sorensen  -  June 20, 1953 - July 8, 2009

Born June 20, 1953 in Burley, Idaho. The third son of Gene V. and Mary Kay Roskelley Sorensen. He attended Burley Elementary and graduated from Burley High School in 1971. He served as an LDS missionary in the Delaware-Maryland Mission.

He is survived by seven brothers and one sister: Steven and Avis Sorensen (Holman, WI), Thomas and Susan Sorensen (Syracuse, UT), Kevin and Dina Sorensen (Palmer, AL), Mark and Marie Sorensen (Orem, UT), Margene and Ken Burgener (Syracuse, UT), Wayne and Teri Sorensen (Poway, Ca), Kelly Sorensen (Lehi, UT), William and Laurie Sorensen (Evanston, WY). He was preceded in death by one brother: David.

He was a member of the LDS Church, and very devoted to his religious callings. He has served as stake and regional athletic director, coach of basketball and softball teams, and as a worker in the Provo Temple. He was serving as the Ward Executive Secretary and as a worker in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. He passed away at his home from natural causes. He loved sports and was a huge BYU sports fan, attending 22 of 27 bowl games. He also was a certified official for volleyball for the Utah High School Athletic Association. In high school he lettered in wrestling, tennis, and football. He was a member of Bel Canto Choir and played the clarinet in the high school band.

He had a B.S. degree from Weber State where he was a member of the Weber State Institute Choral. He was very devoted to his family and will be greatly missed by his siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at the Canyon View Stake Center, 585 East 800 North - Orem, Utah. A viewing was held on Sunday July 12, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. in the evening at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North - Orem, Utah. Interment was in the Orem City Cemetery.
