Well, I'm almost as far away from Burlington as you can be. After graduating from U.W. in 1982, I moved to Massachusetts, got a job in Boston, got married, had three kids and have never left.
I've been married 21 years, still work full time, spend the rest of the time, if there is any, taking the kids to their activities and doing volunteer work.
I work in the mutual fund industry, which is a huge employer in Massachusetts. I didn't know what a mutual fund was when I took my first job here in 1983, but it's turned out to be a nice career. Not what I thought I would be doing, but then, who is???
My husband and I like to have friends over, go out to dinner, and watch the Patriots. We live less than 10 minutes from the stadium, but do most of our watching on t.v.
My oldest son, Dan, is graduating from high school this year. We're still working on his future plans, but he's thinking about coming out to Washington for awhile. Maybe he'll end up in Washington for good-- who knows?
This is home now, but I still miss Washington.
Hard to believe that it's been 30 years since graduation. Some of it I still remember so vividly, other things, hardly at all.
I don't know why, but there is something about the song "Night Moves" by Bob Seeger that instantly takes me back to 1976. I am 16 again and driving my first car.
I guess I remember having open campus the most, especially compared to my kids' high school, where it feels like they're locked in. I remember junior year in particular-- Carolyn Egbert and I were on the school newspaper staff (what was the paper called???) and about 11:30 every day, we'd say "It's time for lunch" and off we'd go for lunch, come back about 1:00 for the next class.
