What have you been up to for the last 40 years?

I got into the world of occupational health & safety years ago. Worked for BC Hydro in safety for about 10 years, did consulting work for a few years, spent some time with the trucking industry, and then ended up joining WorkSafeBC where I've been for the past 12 years.

Currently, I'm the national president of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering - an organization for safety practitioners and safety professionals with members in Canada and beyond.

I'm also now a grandma - and loving it!!!!

Have you traveled? If so where?

Rick and I have travelled to Europe a few times and were recently on a Caribbean cruise.

In May 2017 I had the honour of representing my Canadian organization at Buckingham Palace (three days after the Manchester bombing). It was the 100th anniversary for RoSPA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents). Lord McKenzie of Luton is their President, and the Queen is their Patron. It was a surreal experience to be there, walking through the palace and into the royal gardens for "tea".

In June 2017, I had the privilege of providing a welcome to the delegates of the American Society of Safety Engineers professional development conference in Denver, Colorado. With over 5,000 people in the audience, it was another thrill of a lifetime to be on the huge stage, standing before such an amazing audience.

Last weekend (June 24/25, 2017) I spent time at the Flying U Ranch on Green Lake, 70 Mile House in BC. I've been there 5 times in total, but my first trip there began just after graduation from Burnaby North (just a couple of years ago, right? :) Debra Bobiak had been there many times before with her family, and she talked Valerie Tranter and me into going with her to the ranch. I'd never been horseback riding before so it was a fantastic opportunity that I jumped on. We drove up the Fraser Canyon in Val's car and had an amazing weekend. If you haven't been there, it's a "must do". The horses are lovely, the staff are friendly, and it's one of the only places in North America where you're given a horse to ride, and you can ride anywhere you want - you just have to be back on time :) This means no "trail rides" with your horse in behind the one ahead - total freedom to just enjoy the experience! I've treasured the memories from that first time always, and each time I go back I'm able to relive some of those first moments. You stay in little private very rustic cabins, for each meal the food is served "family style" or they'll pack a lunch for you if you want to ride all day, and the horses roam freely on the property (even visiting you at your cabin - some even trying to step in the door :) Hope you have a chance to get there one day!!!

In September 2017, I will be attending the CSSE's national professional development conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia - so the travels continue!! Looking forward to some fresh lobster!!
