Vera A. Geibel, 61, of Blossom Drive, Center Township, died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday at UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, following a three-week illness from surgical heart procedure complications.
She was born in Butler on Oct. 4, 1946, a daughter of the late Leonard M. "Leo" and Bruna Gianneschi DeRita.
A 1964 graduate of Butler High School, Vera had recently been self-employed as a Mary Kay Cosmetics sales representative and consultant. Previously, for 15 years, she had worked as a bookkeeper for the Beltone Hearing Aid Co. in Butler and had been a receptionist for Dr. Timothy Spina and Dr. Stuart Surkosky. She had also been a long distance operator for the former Bell Telephone Co. in Butler for several years following high school.
Vera was always active and involved in youth activities. She had been a baton instructor for the Greenwood Robinettes Drum and Baton Corps, the cheerleading coach and adviser at Butler Catholic School and later at Butler Intermediate High School. She was a former member of the board of directors for the Butler Montessori School, a former coach and board member of the Butler Soccer Association, and had served on numerous committees and as team mother for the Butler Area Baseball Association, the Butler Basketball Boosters and as a cheerleading coach for the Penn Street Cardinals team of the Butler Midget Football League.
A member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Butler and the St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers, she also was a former past president and board member of the Western Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association Spouses Committee.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen J. Geibel, whom she married Oct. 8, 1966; two sons, Dr. S. Jeffrey Geibel and Chad D. Geibel and his wife, Robin, all of Butler; a daughter, Christine N. Jamison and her husband, Ken, of Devon; and a sister, Jean Rigby and her husband, Gene, of New Castle. She was most proud of her seven grandchildren, Alec, Grace, Cole, Maxx and Jenna Geibel, all of Butler, and Lily and Hannah Jamison.
GEIBEL - Friends of Vera A. Geibel, who died Thursday, May 8, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
