School Story:
Well like I am sure all of you I have had a lot of ups and downs since graduation. I started out going to Moorpark College and then moved onto San Diego State. I graduated with my BS in Biology in May 1995, but didn't get a job in my field right away. Big surprise!! I finally did land a job at Amgen in Thousand Oaks in a lab which was cool at first, but then it became kind of a drag. Same thing everyday. While all of this was going on my father was suffering from liver disease. I had always deep down wanted to be a doctor, but didn't think I could cut it. While helping my dad out by taking him to all of his appointments so he could receive a liver transplant I began volunteering in any hospital in Southern California that would let me. Everywhere from Oxnard to South Central. After taking some post-bac classes to help improve my GPA I finally applied to medical school I didn't get in the first time, but I was able to complete a post-bac progam at Tulane University in New Orleans and then I got into Tulane's Medical School the next year. I graduated from Tulane in 2007 and then moved to Seattle to start my residency in Family Medicine. It is amazing how different every place I have lived in has been. All of them have made an impact on me. I didn't think I like it up here in Seattle because of the winter gray, but it really is beautiful up here in the summer time. Also it helps that I met Beth who became my wife. She has worked as a contractor in marketing for Microsoft and just started a new job working as digital strategist for a very progressive advertising firm here in Seattle. We adopted two rescue animals, one precocious orange cat named Gus, and a rescue Border Collie mix named Liko. We love them both. We are just starting to think about what is next when I finish residency next June. Maybe a move back down to Southern California.... We both love being next to water and the sun would be a nice change.
