After school, I went to Washington College in Chestertown, where I studied history and English and tried to write the great American novel. I went on for a master's in history and museum studies at the University of Delaware in 1992 and got married my second week in--not something I recommend. Over the years, I have worked at many museums and historical societies throughout Delmarva. Serving as curator at the Delaware Agricultural Museum has been my favorite. Since my son was little, I have been working as a consultant (code for part-time) and have been able to pick and choose the projects I like. Interestingly, I spend most of my time interpreting the history and culture of the Eastern Shore (see www.1ststatestories.org), farming and rural life. I think I have a better appreciation now than I ever did for the wonderful way we all grew up. I still live on the 'Shore, 5 miles south of the C&D canal, and visit home often. Our family spends a lot of time in the outdoors, kayaking, sailing and hiking. I am passionate about organic gardening (check out my blog), and volunteer at church and at my kids' school. Carl--a former chef who still works in the food industry-- and I are real foodies and love to cook. We try to enjoy all of our hobbies together as family--before I know it our kids will be graduating from high school!
