One week after graduation from Camden High, I got married to my husband, Willis Hunter and continued to work at Howard Brothers Discount Center while he attended school at Southern Arkansas University. A year later we moved to Fayetteville so he could attend law school at the University of Arkansas. While Willis attended school, I worked making Swanson TV dinners at the Campbell Soup plant in Fayetteville. That was a real experience!
After Willis graduated from law school, he became an Army Judge Advocate (JAG) and for more than 20 years we were a military family moving wherever the Army wanted to send us. In 1980, we moved to Heilbronn, Germany where I had to learn a little German to be able to get around. We lived in Heilbronn for three years and I worked a couple of different jobs and began raising our family. Our oldest daughter, Valinda, was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1982.
In 1984, we were transferred to San Antonio, Texas and I began taking courses at San Antonio Community College. In 1986, I was accepted into the University of Texas Health Sciences Center to study Dental Hygiene. In 1988, I had another baby, Ashley, and I completed the Dental Hygiene program.
In 1989, we moved to Fort Hood, Texas, the Army's largest facility and Willis was assigned as Fort Hood's Chief Prosecuting Attorney.
In 1990, we moved to Charlottesville, Virginia so my husband could attend the Judge Advocate General's School at the University of Virginia.
When Willis graduated from his program at the JAG School, he was assigned as a professor at the school and we ended up living in Charlottesville for five years. In 1995, we were transferred back to Fort Hood. We stayed at Fort Hood for three years this time and in July 1998 we moved to Atlanta, Georgia. In the summer of 2000, Willis retired from the Army at the rank of Colonel and for the first time in 20 years we became civilians.
Following Willis' retirement, he took a position with the US Treasury Department as Chief Counsel at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia and we moved to south Georgia where we currently live.
We reside on a small island (Oak Grove Island) just west of the coastal city of Brunswick and I am still working as a dental hygienist, but only for a few more months.
During my hygiene carrer, I have been licensed to practice in Texas, Virginia, Arkansas and Georgia. I have worked in San Antonio, Temple, Texas, Charlotteville, Virginia, Atlanta and now Brunswick Georgia. Along the way it has been fun and I have occasionally met some real characters.
My two daughters are both married now and they have provided us with three of the most beautiful grandchildren on the planet. Tyler is four, Tristan and Reece are each one. See their photos on my Facebook page.
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, especially at our local beaches on St Simons Island and Jekyll Island. My husband and I have also been long time members of a Harley Davidson motorcycle club and we have traveled to several motorcycle rallies at Daytona Beach, Florida; Sturgis, South Dakota; and Washington, DC.
