I graduated from YSU with a degree in theatre and began working at the Youngstown Playhouse. I've been involved onstage and backstage in over 100 productions.
After my dad passed away in 2002 of complications from diabetes, I've slowly realized how important it is for me to be healthy. For the past 3 years, I've been in a program to address my health problems. It gets a little boring up here in cow country (Andover, Ohio). This tiny town makes Youngstown look like NYC in comparison.
I've wrestled a long time thinking what I could possibly write here. My first post was so generic, and it really didn't sum up my CHS days. While believe Tony Schleef's profile sums it up best, here's my take on life at CHS.
I came to Canfield from a small Catholic school, so it was hard to make the adjustment. Always the outsider, I only knew 3 people when I arrived. I really never felt a part of things. Most of you had known each other for 8 or 9 years already. It's very hard for a shy, awkward, poor fat kid to make a dent in such strong bonds. In fact, I was probably the most unpopular student in the entire history of the Canfield Local Schools. Even some of the teachers gave me immense grief. I don't remember doing anything to offend anyone. Maybe just being myself was enough.
People don't sometimes realize the impact their words can have. Most people probably don't remember the insults, disgust, or jokes at others' expense. Those who were the targets remember it all. If I can impart any words of wisdom, I hope that your children stay strong and don't let anyone's cruelty get in the way of leading a productive life. Teaching children to be more tolerant and accepting of others (no matter how different they may be) is extremely important.
A few people have contacted me, and I heartily apologize for not returning the emails. I really didn't know what to say. Everyone's success stories are so intimidating. You should all be proud of yourselves for everything you've accomplished. Anyway, I'm willing to give it another try if anyone feels like contacting me.
