I moved to Boston to go to MIT in 1969 and have been here ever since, except for 2-1/2 years in Ithaca, NY. For 34 years, I've worked for the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution which is located at Harvard University, a few miles across Cambridge from where I landed almost 50 years ago. I mostly travel by bicycle, commuting 20 miles a day, year round, in any weather, and spend much of my spare time promoting bicycling and open space through a variety of advocacy groups from neighborhood to city to statewide. Since 2011, I've gotten divorced, changed my gender, and am now Jessica Mink, but I still do all of the stuff above, plus singing in my Unitarian Church choir, chairing a council supporting a 13-mile-long greenway, serving on the boards of several community groups, and displaying my photography at our local Open Studios.
