Paul "Squirrel" Knuth

The highlight of my high school years was the weekend we went in to see Johnny Winter play at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Nobody played slide guitar like Johnny did. When he played “Highway 61” (he used a Gibson 12-string, though he only used 6, same guitar he played in Woodstock) I was completely mesmerized (I think someone put something in my hamburger). Floating around stage playing fantastic slide riffs, it was visually and audibly out of this world! Well, standing right next to me, with a cassette tape recorder (he would later give me a copy) was Squirrel and Greg Wendorf. Greg was a really nice guy, I enjoyed his company. I will never forget that night.

I would stop and see Greg and Paul a lot in the halls and talk. Squirrel and I had one class together and it was so important I don’t remember what it was.
