In Memory

Mark Zurek

Mark was born March 16, 1953 in Evergreen Park, IL and he passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Marks love of viewing the world through a camera lens touched so many, and those who became immersed into and inspired by his subject matter were treated to a look into his deep, beautiful soul, and his monumental appreciation for music and the arts. He loved and protected his wife of 43 years, Cherie, who together were best friends from the time they were sixteen. He was a career General Contractor, and many can attest to his attention to detail, quality, and design through his career; which he forged from hard work, intelligence, and a will to succeed that cannot be measured. To say he will be missed by many is an exponentially measured understatement. His dry, sarcastic sense of humor will always be one of many fond memories, as we are sure this particular character trait touched many a soul. He was loved with such tender ferocity by his wife, Cherie, and his two sons, Jonathan and Stephen, and they considered him their best friend. His gigantic spirit is free to touch us all in how we want to remember him. Mark was the beloved husband of Cherie F. Zurek (nee Smith); loving father of Jonathan D. Zurek and Stephen P. Zurek; dear son of Leonard and Mary Anne Zurek (nee Jeffrey); fond brother of Kristine (Leighton) Kidder, Matthew (Molly) Zurek, Steven (Connie) Zurek and the late David Zurek.

I remember Mark mostly from AJHS. He was funny and sweet. His profile was raw and honest. It touched my heart. Eddie's was the coolest place to go in our little Algonquin. I'm sure your beautiful family misses you deeply. Rest in peace.
