Charles Rex Ahlstrom age 70 passed away on March 19, 2014 at Kolob Regional Care and Rehabilitation in Cedar City, Utah.

Rex was born on February 02, 1944 in Seattle Washington to Charles Magnus and Ardeth McKnight Ahlstrom. At that time his father was working in the shipyards. After the war, the family returned to Cedar City, Utah.

At age 12 Rex began working with his father and mother in the family's' furnace cleaning and repair business.

Red attended SUSC (SUU), excelling in drafting; he also attended the University of Utah. He returned to Cedar City after his father passed away in 1966 and took over his father's business. Kolob Sheet Metal. At that time it included a Lennox furnace dealership and Winkler Stokers dealership which shipped sheet metal to Cedar City. At that time Rex was 22 years old.

Rex obtained his heating and cooling contractor's license and worked on many large commercial jobs in Cedar City and other parts of Southern Utah. Rex had dedicated and well trained employees including Gordon Bulloch and Chris Hone.

Rex was life time member of the Cedar City Elks Lodge #1556 and served as the youngest exalted ruler.

He married Cheryl Linda Houchen on August 14, 1971

Rex took many trips to Lake Mead. After Rex and Linda were married the trips continued, with camping and fishing and excursions on the desert, with friends. Rex loved snowmobiling and for a while operated a Polaris franchise.

In 1981 Rex and Linda bought a five acre lot on Cedar Mountain where they built a cabin, which they enjoyed for many years. The also had a trailer in Sunshine Trailer Park in Mesquite, Nevada where they spent time in the winter with other friends from Cedar City.

Rex is survived by his wife Linda, sister, Alice (Clem) Muck and Niece Monica (Doug) Duvall. He was preceded in death by his parents Chuck and Ardeth Ahlstrom.

As per his wishes Rex's body was donated to the University Of Utah School Of Medicine. A memorial services will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Kolob Regional Care and Rehabilitation in Cedar City, Utah for their compassionate care.
