Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Wesley Eugene Blake passed away on the cold snowy morning of December 8,2009.He was born to Hollis Wade and Lucia Marian DeFilippis Blake in Cedar City, Utah on January 30, 1944.He met his sweetheart Phyllis Brown while cruising Parowan's Main Street, during their high school years. They were later married on June 26, 1965 in the St. George LDS Temple. Together they had seven children - four boys and three girls.Wesley graduated from Cedar High School and Southern Utah State College (now Southern Utah University). He was a licensed building contractor, a Master Electrician, and a heating and cooling contractor, working all over Southern Utah and enjoyed teaching his boys how to work.Wesley served in the Army and the Utah National Guard from 1962-1968. He served an LDS Mission to the British Mission from 1963-1965. He was a faithful home teacher throughout his life and had many callings in the Church from Ward Financial Clerk to Sunday School President and Nursery Leader.

Since 1990, he has taught many NRA firearms training courses to 4-H leaders, Boy Scout leaders and NRA members in Utah, Idaho and Nevada. Without Wesley, there would be no shooting activities for the Boy Scouts in the southern Utah area. He was a strong supporter of the Boys Scouts, with all four of his sons becoming Eagle Scouts and was looking forward to seeing his grandsons become Eagle Scouts too.

He served as President of the Parowan Chamber of Commerce and helped start Parowan's Christmas in the Country Celebration. He was also a proud and active member of the Utah Lions Organization, holding many positions in the Parowan club, district and multi-district levels. He served as Utah's 28-T Lions' District Governor from July 2001-June 2002. He was always serving others and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his children Phil (Jamie) of St. George, Utah, Karen (Darrell) Eddington of Morgan, Utah, Robert (Shelly) of Blanding, Utah, James and John of Parowan, Utah, Mary Ann (Robert) Moore of Lehi, Utah. 11 grandsons 1 granddaughter and two more grandchildren on the way. Also surviving are his five siblings Leon, Shirley Thompson, Wilma Boyter, Royal, Bill, in-laws Thales and Edna Brown and brother-in-laws Dean and Jim Brown, along with all their spouses and numerous nieces and nephews.
 

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Ann, his parents and a special nephew, Wesley Boyter.


 

 

The family would like to thank the Dixie Dialysis and Iron Mission staff members for their excellent care and compassion throughout the past 10 years. The Parowan Medical Clinic, Dr. Noel Robinson, Dr. Roger Smith and Dr. John Frischknecht.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Parowan LDS Third and Fourth Ward Chapel. Visitations will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. and again prior to services Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., both at the Parowan Third and Fourth Ward LDS Church, 90 South Main Street, Parowan, Utah. Interment will be in the Parowan City Cemetery, all under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Utah Kidney Foundation or to the Thunder Ridge BSA Scout Camp Building Fund.
