The Jimi Hendrix Experience played The Charlotte Coliseum on May 9, 1969. The opening act was Chicago Transit Authority. See a ticket stub here. This was The Jimi Hendrix Experience's second Charlotte appearance. They appeared at The Charlotte Coliseum as the opening act for The Monkees on July 11, 1967.
Jimi is standing next to Rohn Parsons (1953-2010) in front of The Red Carpet Inn at 615 E. Morehead Street. Rohn interviewed Jimi for an underground newspaper called The Inquisition that was produced by East Mecklenburg High School students.

Thanks for posting this photo! I was at that concert and remember that some of you went in search of The band afterwards. Fond memories of Ron too. We used to gather at his house on Friday afternoons, Ron was on the drums, I was playing my Vox organ, and there were others. Having trouble remembering who else was in our pick up band.(??) But I do remember making our best effort to hammer out themusic of Steppenwolf and others. Music was so important to some of us (still is!) and we were so lucky to ride the wave of all that amazing new talent coming out at that time. Rock on!

I don't know what to say.  I was going to respond to Mitch's comments, until I find he's also passed away.  I knew Rohn, not that we weren't necessarily close friends.  I knew most of the founders of the Inquisition, especially Russel Schwartz.  Mitch and i were good friends, he lived next door to my now wife, Lynn Williamson.  He was a fun and crazy guy.  A classmate I truly missed all of these years after high school.  I always thought Rohn was a really cool guy and appreciated that he didn't try to fit into the status quo.  Two big losses, no doubt. And, I remember the Hendrix Concert.  One of my regrets for not going.
