I went to Lenoir-Rhyne College after high school, graduating with a degree in Music. I got my Masters Degree at UNC-Greensboro in voice in 1980, then worked for the family business in Sylva, NC before returning to UNC-G for the DMA degree in Music. I didn't finish the degree, but I got married in 1987 and had three children in three years. I worked in the NC Visiting Artist Program from 1987-1991. I have spent my life as a performing artist, educator, arts administrator, and family business owner with my brother Tommy.
