I graduated from UNCC (Accounting) and attending UNC-CH (pre-med). Before leaving for medical school I worked for a couple of years in Charlotte as Maynard Buchanan's first employee in a wholesale tire business that has morphed over the past 40 years into a multi-million dollar commercial trucking tire and repair business. Back in 80 there was just the two of us. I left Charlotte in 82 to attend medical school at Wake Forest University, graduating in 1986. Then it was on to internship and residency at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, where I completed my training in 1990. I stayed at Georgetown as faculty for six years, leaving in 96 for a private practice before joining the faculty at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in 2000 where I remain today. I had a second, parallel, career as reservist in the military. In 1988 I joined the United States Navy spending 24 years in the Reserves. Along the way I was mobilized and deployed four times: Fleet Hospital Five in Saudi Arabia 1990; Kuwait 2003; Fallujah, Iraq, 2006-07; and Afghanistan in 09-10. I visit Charlotte regularly about every couple of months to see my father and brother and some old friends . I've been to all of our reunions and I'm really looking forward to this one.
