Obituary of Daniel Thomas Geiger

Daniel "Dan" Thomas Geiger, age 61, of Charlotte, NC passed away suddenly on October 21, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC surrounded by his family. Dan was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 9, 1955 to the late Miriam C. Bordages Geiger and Philip Geiger Jr. He moved to Charlotte, NC as a child, where he lived the rest of his life. He was the fourth child in a family of nine children. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Penny A. Page Geiger. Dan graduated from Myers Park High School. He worked for Harris Teeter as a Network Engineer IV. Daniel was also known to many as "Dano" and he was fondly known to his many nieces and nephews as fantastic Uncle Dan. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Miriam and Philip Geiger Jr.; his brothers Philip Joseph Geiger and Edwin Lloyd Geiger; Brother-in-Law Randy Haigler; and Great niece Madelyn Haigler. Along with his wife Penny, Dan leaves behind his beloved cat Isabella, as well as a large family that dearly loved him, his sisters; Ann Richardson and her husband Bob; Barbara Haigler; Clemmie Marrow and her husband David; Helen Diggs and her husband Allen; his brother Greg Geiger and his wife Harriett. Dan also has 16 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews. A Memorial service for Dan will be held at 1:30PM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard Charlotte, NC 28203, with visitation from 12:00pm to 1:30pm at the funeral home. His Life celebration will be held from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, Saturday, at the Fox and Hound. Special thanks to all the wonderful doctors and nurses at CMC Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Sanger Clinic. Those who may wish to honor Dan's memory may make contributions to The Sanger Clinic Heart Unit, 1001 Blythe Blvd, Suite #300, Charlotte, NC 28203; or The Humane Society of Charlotte 2700 Toomey Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203 or to any local chapter of the American Heart Association. There are no words perfect enough to describe Dan's life. He was the toughest, kindest most honest man anyone could ever have known. We will continue to love him, and will truly miss him.
