John Gray Obituary
John William Gray, III
Mr. Gray, formerly of Charlotte, passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2009 in Seattle, WA. John formerly lived in Portland, Oregon before living the last 18 months in Seattle.
John was born on March 26, 1956. He graduated from Myers Park High School in 1974 and from the University of South Carolina in 1979.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Gray, Jr. and Sybil C. Gray. He is survived by a sister, Lindsay G. Merritt of Charlotte and her husband Mark and their three children Alex, Elizabeth, and Jay.
Several years after John graduated from USC, he went to work in Saudi Arabia. He traveled all over during this time and one highlight was climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. He left Saudi Arabia when his apartment was bombed during the First Gulf War. He returned to the States and later moved to Portland, where he worked as a computer analyst.
He will be missed by his family and friends, who will miss his eclectic interests and off-beat sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church at 1412 Providence Road. The family will receive friends afterward from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lindsay and Mark's home.
