Karen Funderburk Obituary

Karen Elizabeth
Hammer Funderburk
Mrs. Funderburk of Charlotte died at Carolinas Medical Center on Friday, September 8, 2006.
She was born February 19, 1956 in Salem, MA daughter of Dr. Donald E. Hammer, MD and the late Emily Hammer. She was a graduate of Myers Park High School and attended Queens University, UNC Greensboro and was a graduate of UNC Charlotte. Karen was employed with Harris Teeter and was most proud of her work with the Kidney Foundation. She was loved and respected by many for her keen intellect, ready laugh, compassion and her persistence in overcoming her Physical challenges. Mrs. Funderburk enjoyed helping others despite her disabilities and failing health. Never complaining about her own illness, she was always concerned about others instead. A giving individual who will never be forgotten for her simple, but precious gifts, she made from her beadwork and origami animals. Karen was a supportive wife to her husband; she was his companion and confidant through their marriage of 20 years.
Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Robert Funderburk and brothers, George and Eric Hammer. Also surviving are her Aunt, Maxine Tuxbury and Uncle Frank Tuxbury.
