Stanley Garth, 42, a photographer, died Tuesday, May 8, 1990 after a long illness. He lived in New York City.
His photographic work, which was known for its brilliant color and remarkable use of natural and artificial light, earned him fellowships to the Virginia Center for Creative Arts in Sweet Briar and the McDowell Colony in Peterborough, N.H. Mr. Garth also was a furniture designer, film-maker and sculptor whose three dimensional work was noted for its practical and beautiful design.
He received his bachelor of fine arts degree in sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University and was a former member of the Richmond Artists Co-op.
A native of Charlottesville, Mr. Garth is survived by his wife, Molly Shields, also of New York City; his parents, Horace and Evelyn Garth of Charlottesville; his brother, David K. Garth, and his family of Portsmouth; and many devoted and loving friends.

There will be a funeral at Olivet Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville at 3 p.m. Saturday. Hill and Wood Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
