IN MEMORY

Wayne Herring

Wayne Herring

Michael Wayne Herring, of Crozet, died on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the age of 75. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and bedrock of the farming community.

Born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on March 23, 1949, Mike was the third of six children to Roy and Marie Herring. A graduate of Albemarle High School, Mike was a lifelong farmer, the owner of Porterfield Farms, and a respected leader in the Central Virginia farming community. He had a profound impact on many lives, including all of the young men he mentored while working on his farm throughout the years, who learned from his strong character and amazing work ethic.

Mike and his loving wife, Martha, were married for over five decades. They welcomed two daughters, were lifelong residents of Crozet, and loved their beautiful life together that was focused on family, faith, and farming.

Preceded in death by his parents, Mike leaves behind his wife, Martha; daughter Melissa, Dickie, and her husband, Bill; and grandchildren, Porter, Anne, and Murray; and daughter, Michelle Poole, and her husband, Chris; and grandchildren, Will, Elizabeth, and Alex.

A special thank you to all of the doctors and nurses in the Cardiac Care Unit and Four East at the University of Virginia Hospital and to Mike's siblings, Roy Herring, Jr., Linda Tomlin, and Sue Browning, for their love and support over the past few weeks.

A Celebration of Life will be held at King Family Vineyards, 6550 Roseland Farm, Crozet on Monday, July 22nd, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Montanova Stables Foundation, PO Box 704, Keswick, VA 22947.
