Taught 7th grade English and Reading for one year at Burley Middle School in Charlottesville and then 14 years at Albemarle High School; moved when Gordon was transferred by CVS to Rockville, MD where I taught at a private business school for a little over a year before our son, Benjamin, was born. Moved to Frederick, MD when Gordon was again transferred by CVS and lived there for 12 years before moving back to Charlottesville. I worked in the school system as a substitute teacher and also a teaching assistant once Ben started school. After moving back to town, I worked another 10 years at AHS as "the attendance lady" and then the only study hall teacher and substitute coordinator my last year before retiring in 2011. Gordon and I became "swim parents" and were involved with Ben's swim meets from age 5 to 19. Gordon is still involved with VA swimming as a member of the Board and referees summer JSL meets, high school meets, college meets, and USA swim meets. We have a house at Lake Anna and a permanent camper at Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks. Needless to say--water has been a huge part of our life! After Ben's death, Gordon founded the Benjamin Hair Just Swim for Life Foundation, a charity funding swim lessons for those unable to pay for lessons. I have had two strokes since 2014 and don't get around much--use a walker as my right side is partially paralyzed. I do a lot of reading and can type on the computer with one hand!
