10,000 Memories

Ben Hurt served as principal of Albemarle High School for 30 years from 1954 to 1984. More than 10,000 students graduated from the school when he was principal - and he remembers the name, year of graduation, family members and more about EVERY one of them.

His dedication to the students he helped shape is remarkable - and the impact that one man had on the lives of so many young people is extraordinary.

In 2011, the Albemarle Alumni Association honored Mr. Hurt at "A Night to Remember" where more than 650 former students and friends gathered to toast him. In planning the event, the Association collected more than 500 memories of Mr. Hurt from former students and compiled them into a book called "Mr. Hurt's 10,000 Memories." The soft cover book tells an inspiring story for anyone who has attended Albemarle or who has an interest in the education of our youth. It is also a great gift idea.
