We are sorry to report that Jim, who was our CHS Winter '68 Class President, passed away on February 28, 2015 in Roseburg, Oregon two weeks before his 65th birthday. Please let us know if you have any futher information. Thanks.
Update 7/29/15: John Richards heard from Jim's brother, Steve, who told him that "Jim moved to Sutherlin, Oregon in 2003. He bought a building that he intended to use as an artists gallery, selling his own photos and artworks by others in the community.
When the recession of 2008 hit, his business was devastated, as were a lot of others around the country.
Jim had been trained as a finish carpenter, and used those skills to work as a General Contractor. He also got his Real Estate license, selling property and working as a property manager as well. He began a computer repair business as his health deteriorated, as that did not require as much physical exertion on his part.
Most of us remember Jim as a very healthy, active man. He ran track and cross country at Chatsworth High. He was a lifelong member of the YMCA, and was dismayed when his health began deteriorating around 2010. He discovered he had diabetes, and plaque build-up in his arteries, so underwent heart surgery (bypass) in 2010.
He came down to visit his brother Steve, and three nieces in October 2013. Steve tried to convince him to move back to southern Ca, but Jim wouldn't hear of it.
Jim left his estate to Steve's three daughters, as they were the closest family to him, like his own children. Jim never married, but the love of his life was Renee down here (in California.)
Jim is buried in the Cedar Hills Cemetery, Oakland, Oregon, if you want to pay your respects. Oakland is adjacent to Sutherlin.
RIP, Jim"
