Dave, a native of Philadelphia, passed away at Riddle Hospital from a systemic bacterial infection. Raised in Holmes, he graduated from Ridley High School in 1962 and Pennsylvania Military College in 1966, where he was a brother of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was also a member of the Holmes Volunteer Fire Company. After graduation from PMC, Dave was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served at the Aberdeen Proving Ground before his transfer to the United States Army Garrison, Schweinfurt, Germany, where he served from 1967 to 1969, Dave served in the Third Army Division, 703rd Maintenance Battalion, Wurzburg, Germany. Promoted to Captain, he served as Company Commander, Company C. In 1969, Dave shipped off to Vietnam, where he served in Long Binh. Dave always remembered when, in 1969, he was able to have Thanksgiving dinner, with his twin brother, Doug, who served in Vietnam at the same time. Upon his return to the United States from Vietnam in 1970, Dave received an Honorable Discharged from the Army. Dave worked as a C.P.A. with Coopers and Lybrand and as Comptroller of Wilmington Trust. From 1981to1999, Dave was employed by Widener University as Vice President for Finance and Administration. He oversaw all facets of Widener's business. After Widener, Dave served as Chief Financial Officer of Rapid Learning Institute,founded by his son Glenn (a Widener graduate). Dave retired after leaving RLI. To honer and in memory of his father, Dave created the William David Eckard, Jr. Award for Distinguished Service. The award was given to two longstanding Widener employees for their commitment and outstanding service to the Widener community.
Survivors: wife, Diane M. Eckard (Coffey Burns); sons, Glenn David Eckard (Lisa), Mark William Eckard (Erin Diane); grandchildren David Anthony Eckard, Justin William Eckard, Brian Matthew Downey, Campbell Olivia Eckard, Seamus Edward Downey, and Kayla Diane Downey; twin brother, Sydney Douglas Eckard. Services: private and at the convenience of the family. Interment: Fernwood Cemetery and Mausoleum, Lansdowne, Pa. Arrangements: White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 North Swathmore Avenue, Ridley Park. Pa.
Edward J. Scheib, 78, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Neskovich) Scheib.
Born in Pennsylvania on December 14, 1944, Edward was a son of the late Michael and Eileen (Robinson) Scheib. He worked as a real estate agent and enjoyed fishing, reading, and cooking.
In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by two children, Michael E. Scheib, husband of Ashley, and Melissa L. Hlavacek, wife of Ralph; a granddaughter, Hailey; a brother, Gary Scheib; and two sisters, Judith Robinson and Karen Scheib.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
