Who is Deana Dean? In short, Deana Dean is the voice for sisterhood. Dean has been writing and performing poetry since 2001 and has been a vital member of the artistic community since her debut. Dean’s style is reminiscent of revolutionaries from the days of old delivered with a modern twist. She is influenced by numerous artists but finds her poetic peers within the Chicago artistic community to be her greatest source of inspiration.

She has been recognized for her work in periodicals such as Get Plugged magazine, The Chicago Defender, Spoken Vizions Magazine and Stony Island Magazine. She is able to reach audiences with her conversational sister girl tone that ranges from loving to “in your face”. Her attendance at almost every poetry venue on the Chicago poetry (at least once!) has earned her the moniker Deana Dean on the scene.

Some of her accomplishments include opening for many R& B acts as well as comedians. She’s headlined for Soul Poetry Café’ at The Hothouse and the District and been featured at numerous colleges such as Milliken University, Loyola University, DePaul University, and North Central College. Her craft has been requested nationwide. In conjunction with her fellow artists she has spearheaded a movement for the revival of arts. Under the name Culture Proof Productions she produces shows/concerts featuring, MC's, spoken word artists, vocalists, live bands and visual artists. CPP also promotes various events around Chicago.

In addition to headlining at poetry sets she added theatre to her repertoire by performing in the poetry play, “And Then There Was Poetry”. She has been featured on cable access shows such as “In Search Of Goddess,” where she performed and was interviewed live. She’s been the host of many successful poetry sets and won several spoken word contests.

Fiercely dedicated to the betterment of her community, she is more than a spoken word artist she is a mentor and motivational speaker for at risk teens.

Her work is available on a 9 vignette film called Natural Progression.
