I am the mother of a four year old son. I cannot believe that he will be five next month. Some may know but my son has ASD-Autism Spectrum Disorder. He was diagnosed last year. Though some days are a struggle. I would not trade them for the world. I am becoming knowledgabe about this disorder. I become overwhelming at times because there are so many questions to be answered. I am walking a 5k Autism walk Saturday May 16th at Soldier's Field for my son. If you are interested in finding out more information on Autism, www.autismspeaks.org is a good website to visit. After graduating from HPCA, I attended and graduated from Grambling State University. I became a member of the greatest sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Spring 1993. I'm still active with my sorority. I am using everyday to continue to evolve and become a better person than I was the day before. If I have learned no other lesson in the past twenty years is to not let life burdens change who you are for it is only for a season. I could add much more but I don't want to get to involved.
School Story:
I have many memories from HPCA. Most of them good. I would not trade my friends that I made. Two of which I am still close to even today. Some friendships cannot be traded and are meant to stand the test of time. I am so glad to be friends with Paulette and Annie. I had Ms. Hairston-Dixon for gym freshman year. I dislocated my shoulder and had a doctor's excuse from gym. It was time to take the test for Volleyball. She told me if I do not take the test I will fail. I had to take my sling off and do the test so I would not have to make up a credit in Summer School. I swore that woman did not have a heart. I also remember how informative her Health class was. I learned lessons in there that I remember to this day.
