"Crazy" Joe and I became friends after high school .He used to come over and hang out at our house (Burns'basement)and later to my wife and my apartment .Joe could be deep and thoughtfull at times ,and some times he could be quite crazy , but we always enjoied his company .Joe told me ,I should become a union carpenter ,and so I did . I joined the aprentice program ,as he had done ,and learned a trade I love , have become very good at and that has served me well for 37 years now. I will always owe him a debt of grattitude !

Everyone has a list of their most unforgetteble characters.
Joe will top mine forever. He did things at 12 and 13 that were totally un real. There probably wasn't a KP kid who didn't know joe. He was a real friend thu grade and HS.
If you were his friend you were gold to him.

Joe was the kind of guy you didn't want as your enemy. He also was a guy who would help you out any way he could. Joe never forgot who his friends were. I can remember when our rock group (Souled Out) was playing a sock hop in 1969 at St.Jenovees (Cicero & Fullerton area) with our members all being from the class of 68 John Sweeney, James Dohl, Bel Sagols and myself. We were constantly being harassed by a group of greasers during the show. After the show was over and we were loading up our equipment, here came the same bunch of greasers that were giving us trouble. Joe was at the sock hop too. He offered to help us load up. When he saw that we were outnumbered by the greasers, he jumped out of his 68 Le Mans convertible and grabbed a twenty foot tow chain and started to swing it around like he was going to rope a steer! At the same time he was yelling to the greasers to come and get it. They took a look at him and I heard one of them say, "let's get out of here. This guy is crazy. They scampered like little rabbits! Maybe that's how a lot of people remember Joe, crazy. 39 years later I married Joe's sister, Barbara. I wish Joe could have been there. He was a one of a kind, missed by many.
