Thanks for sharing the video John. That's my brother's class so I shared it with him. Their 40th reunion is coming up so I'm sure his fellow alumni will get a kick out if it!

Don,

That is very fascinating. I did not recall any Lane ghost stories when I was a student there, but I know of several places in the building that would be very creepy/scary, especially alone and/or at night. And I am sure a building that size would have hidden rooms/passages that most would not know about.

Was there any history or rumors about a death/incident in the building or on the campus in the past that would explain a ghost or a spirit?

One thing about being a Lane Alumni is that we are many and all over and you never know when and where you will run into other Lane bretheren. Here are some of my recent Alumni stories:

I work at a relatively small place (<100 people) west of Kenosha. But besides myself, we had 2 other employees (1 just recently left the company) that were also Lane graduates. Both of them were early 80's graduates. What are the odds that there were 3 Lane graduates working at the same relatively small company more that 60 miles from Lane?

I attended a brunch event in June at Chicago Joe's (on Irving Park just east of Western), and I happened to be wearing my Lane Tech alumni t-shirt there.  While mingling with the staff there, I met a woman who noticed my Lane Tech alumni T-shirt and she told me she was also a Lane alumni, class of 96. I was able to show her a few yearbook photos of myself that I had on my phone and we had a good time sharing Lane stories.

My daughter and I attended the "Tribute Island" festival along with the AMC classic car show and also a beach volleyball tournament all along the Kenosha lakefront one day last month. I happened to be wearing my Lane Tech alumni t-shirt that day and I got several "shout-outs" from folks (mostly younger folks) who saw my t-shirt and knew about Lane Tech. Unfortunately, I did not stop and query them on what connections they had with Lane Tech.
Side note: To all those who have Lane Tech alumni t-shirts: Have any of you received any "grief" because of the word Indians on the t-shirt? I have not yet, but I have only worn it a few times out and about.

I ride the Metra from Kenosha to Chicago and vice versa a couple of weekends a month as I have lots of stuff going on in Chicago. The weekend pass is a great deal for me as I can walk to the Kenosha Metra station from my place here. The only issue is the very limited number of trains that go all the way to and from Kenosha. Waukegan is every train, but if you know Waukegan.....nuff said. So, if I do not get the 4:35pm Sunday train (leaving downtown), then the next train is at 12:35am Monday morning (full fare also) and that gets me at Kenosha at 2:15am. I have had to take that train several times in the past unfortunately. So, usually that 4:35pm Sunday train is a pretty full train and a lot of folks get off at Kenosha.
So one Sunday in April this year, I was on that 4:35pm train heading back home and I noticed this young woman seated across the aisle from me and I notice she has a Lane Tech backpack. I figure she attends one of the colleges in Kenosha. So we get to our stop and I ask her if she went to Lane. She tells me yes, she recently graduated from there. I tell her I also went to Lane and I tell her I was in the class of 76. Well, I do look young for my age and with me dressed casual and with a baseball cap, I can see how I might not look 58/59. And I notice her trying to calculate back in her head just how long ago 1976 was and it seems like she figures that I am way too young to be a 76'er and her look becomes very skeptical and I start feeling really creepy that she thinks I just made that up. Now I do not usually carry my Lane diploma or my 1976 yearbook with me, and I was not wearing my alumni t-shirt, so I am thinking "how can I prove I was a Lane 76 graduate?" Should I just break out into the school song? So we exited the train, but it was very awkward.
I know, I should have gotten my official Lane Tech alumni I.D. card with my graduation picture and year of graduation on it and then I could have just "whipped out my Lane credentials" right there on the train and then she would have been floored by my sincerity and awesomeness.

Hello all,

So, I was going through some old stuff and I came across my ACT results. I am sure you all remember taking that test while at Lane. But I also came across some of the questions that were on the test. Ready to take the ACT again? It's the holiday, I am sure you all have time to take it as I remember I had to take my ACT test on a Saturday (April 1975 to be exact). Good luck and enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Are you ready to take the ACT (Alumni Childhood Test)?

1) Name the "Battling Tops".
2) Where are these from? Rabid shave, Fish bone, Bustedfinger.
3) Why are these numbers (and some others) unique? 07734, 71077345.
4) What dance did we do to "Scorpio" by Dennis Coffey?
bonus question: What song did Dennis Coffey release after "Scorpio"?

9) What is Parkay? What was so cool about the commercial for it?
10) What TV show had these popular phrases? "Fickle finger of fate" "Very interesting.....but stupid" "Here comes the Judge"

Songs and jingles (just for Timmy)

11) What products are these jingles from?
        a) "You've come a long way baby.....to get where you got to today..."
        b) "From the land of sky blue waters......waters..."
        c) "Charlie says.....love my ____ ___ ______....Charlie says....really rings a bell (ding)..."
12) What TV short did this song come from? "Conjunction junction.....what's your function?"
bonus question: Can you name other songs from this TV short?
13) What TV show had this song? "People let me tell you about my best friend...."

The following are just to put more songs into Timmy's head and to continue to torture him:

John and Timmy,

Great job! You guys are da BOMB.

John - You got all of them correct and for question #3, you got the right idea. Do you remember when those Texas Instruments calculators came out? They had the TI-20 TI-30 TI-40, etc.  We used to punch numbers in them and hold the display upside down and you would get words.  So 71077345 held upside down would be ShELL OIL but I messed up on the 07734 because of the leading 0. Because, for some calculators, I would need to add the decimal point. so .07734 held upside down would be hELLO. For some calculators, I would have to just put .7734 as the calculator would add the 0 for hELLO. Other numbers would be 7734.40 which held upside down would be Oh.hELL.

Timmy - I hope you got lots of those jingles stuck in your head now. It happenned to me as I was coming up with them. Misery loves company. Thanks for taking one for the team.

Hey if you're on the north side today, plan to drop in at Lane to visit the first ever, student-alumni art exhibit... Tribe!  Marie and I will be there and a few Bicentennials are among the artists, which range from the classes of 1961 to 2022... Wowie!

3:30-7:30   Enter at door M off the parking lot, (just like the reunion tour)

Sorry I missed this Michelle. I really wanted to go to see your work and that of Morgan Lyons- Class of 2018. From what I saw in the last alumni newsletter, her work is amazing. Hope you had a good turn out.

Sorry I missed the art-ex too.

I see it will be up for some time - is it known whether there is any other time that it will be open for public-viewing (or, only thru the reception).

The inaugural student-alumni art show, "Tribe", is a success, and the opening reception was really fun!  The students were so excited to be showing their work alongside the adults. We're hoping it'll be an annual event.  Anyone can pop into Lane (same entrance "M" off the parking lot that we used for our reunion), check in with security and walk through Gallery 2501.  Sorry... you won't be allowed to walk through the building but you CAN see the show between 8AM and 6:30PM until October 20th.  The Gallery is in room 147, a former woodshop located right behind the security desk.

Hello all,

I recently attended an Oktoberfest get together and among the many folks present were some Lane Tech alumni. More than several were from our 76 class and there were also a couple of alumni from other years. I even met a future Lane alumni (class of 2021).  So while I bounced around like a pinball, mingling with various members of our 1976 brethren, I was privy to a few stories of our times there at Lane. Here are a few (and I welcome any feedback/corrections/additions you all may have, so please join in):

While my graduation from Lane was relatively uneventful (not unlike my college graduation as there was an incident I was involved in that was definitely unique/wacky that day), I do recall (and it was confirmed by others) that we got a directive from above that throwing our graduation caps (aka "motarboards") after the ceremony was strictly "verboten" (I went German in the spirit of Oktoberfest). But I remember that some did do the fling and I might have done a half-hearted one, since I managed to recover and keep my motarboard and tassel. I still have them along with my 76 medallion.

There was also talk about us getting our 76 yearbooks late that year due to a teachers strike and us scrambling at the last minute to get them signed. I did not recall this, but I do know that I damaged my original 76 yearbook cover because I was holding it against the handlebars of my bike one time that summer, probably to visit a Lane friend to get them to sign it.

I also got some scuttlebutt about the whys and hows for the events leading to the creation of the division picture caricature that was posted earlier in this forum. I was also able to get some scoop on some of the roles that some of the 76'ers played in that endeavor. I was unaware of any of those inner circle happennings until this gathering.

Since the reunion last year, including the folks I talked to at this gathering, every 76'er that I met who had Mr. Keating for foundry (I was also an unfortunate one), thought that he was (pardon my French, but in the spirit of Oktoberfest, I will not use French). But you can get my drift on what the prevailing opinion of him was.

Lastly,in response to my post #515 - Question #4 -  the dance we did to Scorpio by Dennis Coffey was "The Funky Penguin". I remember doing that dance. Do you? If not, you can look at U-Tube to see what the dance was.

Michelle,

That is so cool that you post that picture on our 1 year anniversary of the 76'er 40th year reunion, the SAME WEEK that the Cubbies clinch the division for 2017! Woo-hoo! Go Cubbies!
