Ken, wish I could be as benevolent as you, but I would just squash the critter. I can't stand centipedes, and I'm not sure your fellow apartment dwellers would appreciate you putting insects back in the building where they can crawl into another apartment, and most likely be decimated anyway!
I have to say.....I am LOVIN all the comments and replies from you all. Keep em coming! I will be posting replies to them in the near future, but for now, I will be spending this weekend in CHI-town (having wacky adventures as usual as well as celebrating Father's Day). So, before I head out, I want to wish all of us Dads a happy (and even Hoppy if you like your beer that way) Father's Day. Also, which Father's Day T-shirt do you think your loved ones would get you?:
Foursomes are sold out but we have eight Bicentennials attending this dinner so far and enough donations to sponsor a hole on behalf of the Class of '76. If anyone else is interested in joining us for dinner,($35) or chipping in for the sponsorship, give a shout. All funds raised will go to the 2017/18 Teacher Grant Program.
I know it's last minute but I got a call from Johnny Burke (he was the equipment manager for the football team) and he was looking to get fellow 76ers to meet this Friday (the 28th) at Arlington Racetrack for some brews, races, and reminiscing. Gates open @ 2pm, races start at 3:15pm. For more info, give JB a call at 847-991-0861. Hope to see you there.
Michelle, thanks for the heads-up on the Class of 1977 Reunion - the one my brother Chet is in. Unfortunately that's the exact date his eldest, my nephew Eric (yes we both have a son named Eric, it's complicated) will be getting married. So I'll be with them in the midwest, but can't see you folks as the wedding's near Indianapolis and we're only in for the weekend. Chet will be sorry to miss it. I think. He may not have the same view towards reunions that I now have <g>.
I recently saw the movie "Spiderman Homecoming" and while waiting through the credits (with Marvel movies, you need to wait until after the credits as they usually have a scene that will reveal something big. Also if you saw "Guardians of the Galaxy 2", the credits themselves were very entertaining. I especially enjoyed hearing "Flashlight" by Parliment again). But I digress (as usual).
So anyway, during one portion of the credits, they play the Spiderman theme song from the original cartoon version (which I used to watch religiously on Saturday mornings back in the day). So what do I do? I break into song and sing the words to the Spiderman theme song as I remember practically the whole song (have I mentioned that I used to watch that cartoon religiously on Saturday mornings back in the day?). So while I was wailing away there were several folks in the theater giving me looks of amazement and awe and I am sure my official Marvel Spiderman shirt I was wearing helped my cause.
So bottom line: How many of you remember the original Spiderman cartoon that played on Saturday mornings? And more importantly, how many of you remember the words to that theme song? Are you ready to take the Spiderman challenge?
I apologize in advance to Timmy (and others) because this may be another tune that may stick in his brain over and over and over. To help you all out, here is the beginning of the theme song:
"Spiderman, Spiderman....
does whatever a spider can....."
Can you finish it?
Side note: So...would that be something that would make your Tinder profile more appealing?
"Likes fast cars, fine wine, moonlit walks on the beach and......oh yeah....knows the Spiderman original cartoon theme song intimately".
Time for a new subject. Recently was sent a few ghost stories about chicago land high schools. Lane and Schurz were in there more than once. Any one have a ghost story.?? I was a Warrior Editor and had to work on a new addition. It was like 5:00 in the morning and mr Rogers personally let me in to finish the issue. He said don't wander the halls blah blah blah. Anyways I needed to get something from across the hall in Gerhke's shop. The doors were locked so I'd have to wait. Went back towards the office and saw a blonde haired lanetech sweater person come from the same room I was just at and walk toward the lunchroom. Thinking he could let me in I walked down to the lunchroom where a teacher was sitting at the doorway. I asked if she saw where the guy had gone. She said no one went past her???? And when Gerhke got there the door was locked as it should be. No one else should have keys and he didn't authorize early students for that day. Never got an answer.
In 1977 (so – just a bit after we had all left the scene), LTHSFootball won the city championship. Along the way – the Team had won all their exhibition games, they won all their league games, and, they set a new scoring-record in the city-championship game (defeating Prosser 49-6).
In light of their winning that year – our neighbor at WGN, Ray Rayner, donned his #38 Lane Tech jersey and did an entire-show with the players, coaches, athletic-director, some faculty, the cheerleaders, pom-pom’s, majorettes, spirit-boosters, and Principal Silber.
This is the video of that Ray Rayner Show (but for a little glitch at the beginning - it is sans commercials and cartoons), as broadcast on Thursday, December 1, 1977. With the audience 100% LTHS – Ray sings “Mr. Touchdown”; the Pom-Pom’s perform to the song “Boogie-Nights”; the Cheerleaders, Majorettes and Spirit-Boosters pull-off leading a clean version of “Go Lane Go” (at least it sounds clean – no-cussing I think); Ray intros the players and coaches - with some highlights shown from the championship-game; there's more; and, of course, Chelveston the Duck gets some lettuce.
I'm sharing here because - even though it's from after our time, it seems relatable and it is nothing less than amusing all the way through. Also, the camera often pans the audience throughout the taping – so, you may recognize some of the youngsters we left behind.
Until I saw this - I had forgotten about the chaos-component that comprised much of The Ray Rayner Show too. Watch it all, or, just-browse, but – enjoy!
