Janet. Happy Birthday and lucky you! I went to Cincinnati to watch our Cubs get CRUSHED 12-1!

I did like Great American Ballpark, though. Much better that the old Riverfront Stadium. Still no Wrigley, though!

Janet,

That is an awesome story and belated birthday wishes. It's really cool to see the Lane Tech/Cubs connections we have been having lately.

Tim,

Thank you for remembering some other Lane/IIT alums. I am sure there will be others that will come to mind in the future.

Okay kiddos! It's time to register to attend our 60th Birthday Party.  We have been able to keep costs low and convenience high.  The party will be held at the Unforgettable Bar owned by Nancy Kempe '78, who is super excited to host us and will offer drink specials.  We have scheduled a midday party so folks can brunch or go to the Lane football game if they so desire before the party, and still have time in the evening to have dinner with their various subgroups afterwards if they like.  Out-of-towners will be able to howl at the moon and still have Sunday as get-away-day, while locals can use Sunday to recover.  Because we don't want to open a new bank account, Paypal account, and pay transaction charges like our reunion, we are going "Old School" asking that you send your $20 check for food, cake and more to Peter Ingraffia who has very generously volunteered to serve as our finance department.  Street parking should be fairly plentiful midday on Irving and the side streets.  CTA Blue line and Metra's Union/Pacific Northwest Line trains stop just steps away.  Click on the "Bicentennials' 60th Birthday on the lefthand banner to link to registration... which is gloriously OPEN!

Count me in!  And, I'm going to reach out to some of our fellow Millennials who didn't make the reunion... and regretted it!  Peggy (Tokimoto) Smith, Pete Colovos, Jim Paskind, Jamie Ali.

Who's interested in going to the game?  I could resurrect some of the (NSFW) Lane Rowdy cheers!  We could all buy multiple tickets to the game, then get back in after we get kicked out.  Ahhh... the memories!

BE THERE!

Hey Flor!  My butt will be there and if I knew you guys were sneaking in 1/2pints while, Maze, Greg and I were busting our butts on the field, I may have gone up in the stands instead of the locker room at half time.

Who remembers the cheer that started "Cigarette ashes, cigarette butts..."
And, my refreshment of choice back then was Mad Dog 20/20. And... i didn't go blind!

Cigars at the game. That sounds good! Probably a no smoking area now. What are they going to do... kick us out?

Drinkin on the sidelines. POLSKIAID! Well Can't be as bad as my QB senior year in OK. We are playing Central State of OK they are #1 in nation. He is guzzling screwdrivers from a 32oz cup that a couple of hurt players in the stands had. He is getting a screwdriver quencher after every series from second quarter on. We beat them and ruined their perfect season. Right after the game as we were starting to shake hands a bench clearing brawl started. So much for sportmanship. The only games we lost that year were the ones he didnt get drunk the night before them. He made some plays he never would have if the edge was off! All American QB for 2 years, he may have made McMahon blush. Oh the stuff that went on in dem daze! Ain't never had too much fun!

Hello all,

I went Kayaking (my first time ever) on August 4th, with 3 other friends of mine. It was at Nippersink creek, which is located in Richmond, Illinois (a bit northwest of Fox Lake). What fun that was, well....except for the sunburn on my legs (on only one side of them too), and we all had some kayaking “fails", especially when my bro flipped over his kayak. But during that outing, I had a “Sighting", but a kind of indirect one. Would “indirect" be good definition for this one? You be the judge.

We get to the Pioneer point landing area on Saturday morning, which is actually where we will finish our kayaking run, as there will be a shuttle that will take us to the starting point where they will give us rookie kayakers some instruction and then launch us on our way. Along with us 4, we were joined by 6 others who also signed up for this start time. Our shuttle van (one of 2 vans) had 6 of us, the 4 in my group and then another couple. As we are headed for the launch point (several miles away), we start having conversations with our guide/van driver. He is late teens, maybe early 20's, and local to the area which is very rural. So rural, in fact that he said there were only 20 something students in his high school graduation class. I then chimed in and said that our graduation class had over 1000. So he asked where I went to High School and I said “Lane Tech, Chicago, Illinois,  class of 1976". After I said that, one of the other passengers in our van said he went to Gordon Tech in 1975 and 1976, but transferred to another school (maybe Taft) and graduated in 1978. By that time the van arrived at our launch point so we could not have a lengthy and detailed conversation about those times. Plus we did not have any cell phones to take pictures or pens to write things down (because you cannot bring certain things with you, because there is a good chance that they and you will get soaked during this kayaking trip, which was true, ask my bro), so this is by memory only.

He said his name was Tim Worster. He lived in Jefferson Park during that time, but now he lives in the Fox Lake area. He talked about how Lane and Gordon students would harass each other on the Addison bus (I took the Western bus, so I never saw firsthand those shenanigans). I told him that I get down to Chicago pretty often and that Gordon Tech is now De Paul academy and that was news to him. He then mentioned a Lane Student he was friends with (I think they lived close to each other and went to the same grade school, etc.) and his name was Rich Wiederer or something like that. But Tim called him “Weeds or Weedy" for short. So after I got home I looked for his name in our 1976 yearbook and there is a Rich Wiederer – division 875 (class of 1978). And he played Frosh-Soph football in 76. So if anybody knows Rich, tell him I met his friend Tim Worster while kayaking the Nippersink creek in Richmond, Illinois on 8/4/2018.

Hello Ken,

I road the Addison bus and yes there was a rivalry. They would call us squaws and they were sheep or ewes. Sometimes we would refer to them as goats. Made for some interesting bus rides.

The name Tim Worster sounds familiar. I lived in Jeff Park too. Maybe we went to grammar school together and then Lane. I'll check my yearbook.

I am happy to report for those who haven't reached their milestone yet, that 60 doesn't feel much different from 59-9/10s.  Thanks for the well-wishes!
