Class of '75 has been hit hard too.  They just lost Cheryl Hatch on Saturday.  She was in the music program and German Club.

Sad news about Cheryl Hatch. I knew her through my musical theater friends (Rick Crom, Dave Ladner, Steve Lundquist, all '75), but didn't know she was fighting cancer.

All,

While I rarely post, I am heartened to see postings from so many fellow Class of 76ers, whom I remember.  For career reasons, I relocated from Chicago in summer 2000 and now live in my future retirement location near Charlotte, NC.

Do plans exist for some type of reunion (even if but small gatherings) over the next few years?  I am gladly able to help, even from afar.

Thanks,

Peter

The FIVE OH as in 50 as in 50th anniversary of our wonderful graduation is around the corner.......... When the time comes, I too will be happy to assist in its planning and execution.

Hey is anyone here the recipient of a Wabeno Award and if so, do you have a good picture of it?  Looking for the next issue of the Alumni Newsletter. We will name you as recipient in the caption and it will be featured prominently on the back cover of the issue.

You could be almost famous!

I don't have a Wabeno, but I was in "The Maltese Wabeno."

I wish we had "Like" and "Laugh" buttons on this platform. Cole and Bliss... you two are wiseguys! I think I found the elusive Wabeno from one of the first ladies in the Class of '74 so everyone can chill.  (I do remember the Maltese Wabeno!)

Ok... don't know about you guys... but my holiday plans are set.

Easter... lamb on the grill followed by a swing big band at the Jazz Kitchen here in Indianapolis.  28th anniversary of the club and listed as one of the top 100 jazz clubs in the world!

Mothers Day Brunch at a drag club!  Nothing says "Mothers Day" like men dressed like mothers!

Of course... not long until MAY IN INDIANAPOLIS!  This'll make the 35th year I've been to The Race (note the upper case).  Not counting 2 years off for Co-Vid.  Expecting a crowd of 350,000 this year.  Of course... 35 years is nothing around here.  Some of these tickets have been passed down for generations.

Vroom!

Okay all....firstly,....a safe and blessed Easter wish for you all and your families.  More than ever our world needs devine help.  Covid, Ukraine, social justice.......

Second, maybe I was killing brain cells each time I missed a dismount in gymnastics but for the life of me I can not recall a Wabeno.  I recall the term, but nothing else.  Will one of you refresh my memory regarding just what a Wabeno was.  I suspect I am not the only forgetful or unknowing 76er..

Peace..............

Holiday plans include a double dose of Easter -- "Greek" and "American." Making Orthodox Easter Dinner will be a lot more fun in my new kitchen!

The Wabeno was a special award that just a handful of students received for exemplary performance in academics and extracurriculars.  I know Taina is a Wabeno Award-winner because she brought hers to the "Show & Tell" table at our 40th reunion.  Can't recall what it looked like but here is one from 1974.  It was given to Sue Lawrence, the first female student to receive one in school history!  Also a couple pictures from "The Maltese Wabeno" school play (I think circa 1975).

The up/downside of having a mom who seemed never to throw anything away is that I occasionally run across  treasure (?) like this. I guess any number of non-Laneites wouldn't know what it's for!!

And now... whatever do I DO with this???

(You all don't still have your drafting boards do you? THAT I don't have ;-)

Maja,

Used it to brush off all the Scum-X from Mr. Rafac's asignments.
I always enjoyed drawing screw threads!

Still have my board too and T square and 2 triangles.  Compass and some odds and ends. ( brush too which I still use )    I had a mom who just kept stuff.  Have allot of Lane stuff.  But my wife of 38 years is quite the opposite.

I recall a test on a drafting final exam.....This was Mr. Reem ( sp ? )  Question was - If you need to draw a bigger circle and your compass will only do a 3 inch circle, you will need a  ___________ compass.    The answer was the name of another compass type.....a 'bow' compass I think.  However, several of us in the class filled in that blank with the word 'bigger'.  You need a bigger compass.

He aslso asked , "What does a reemer do?'   Of course, the reference was to reeming out a hole.  Well. you know where this is going......severaal of us said in our answer, A reemer teaches drafting at Lane.

There's more ....for another day.maybe.  Gosh life was good back then

My drafting board now serves as a drawing base for Grand Children.  An apt usage for this late in its "drawing" life I think.

Drafting was pretty cool. Kathy Nelson was next to me, Alice Uchida and John Todesco were behind us. We all clicked. I remember Mr. Urban telling us that a drawing is a legal document. That stuck with me and I have used that line in many of work related discussions.

I also had Mr. Chatelain who taught us some neat tricks when setting up a drawing. Now we just click and drag on the screen to get it just right. He showed us how to do it all manually before you even drew the first line so the object would be perfectly centered in an isometric view. He did give us some grief though. He'd look out at us once in a while and say, "I know your all going in life............JOLIET!!"  Meaning the penitentiary.

Anybody remember the drafting book?

Ed, the compass is beam or trammel. I have also used a lightshade in emergencies.

Yes, Per I do remember our drafting class!  I still have my drafting board, T-sqaure, some angles and some of my drawings.   Fond memories.

Andrea M Adam

Hello to All,

Yesterday I attended the last Zoom meeting of the committee to organize the 50 Years of Women at Lane. I want to encourage everyone (you too, guys) to consider attending. I realize that a lot of our class has moved to other states, but those who are still in the area would be wise to partake in the celebration.

Several of the women from the class of '75, along with our Fearless and Bold Leader Michelle have done an outstanding job of gathering information, newspaper clippings, memorabilia and long-lost treasures which will all be on display. There will be several intersting speakers and a chance to re-connect with other classmates. And who knows Ken but you may reconnect with that girl of your dreams... just sayin'.

Our committee has worked for over 2 years to make this day a reality. There is no cost to attend and refreshments will be served but you MUST register so the school is aware of the number attending. See Michelle's previous post for the website address because those who know me, know I'd probably screw up trying to copy and paste.

So try and attend on Saturday, June 11th from 8:30-11:00. We'd love to see the Class of '76 have the largest turn-out. GO LANE!!!

Okay    okay.....I am in.  I will register today.  For some reason......I feel compelled to go.  Frankly, even just a tour would intrigue me as I have ( get this ) NOT been inside those hallowed walls and halls since 1976!!!

I suspect I will be in for a shock.
