Wendy- Hello!
Funny you should mention Papa Doo Run Run...I asked if anyone remembered them earlier on Facebook...Debbie Dale said they had performed at a function she had attended. She said they were 'really' old! LOL Driver's test!!! You are so right on that one.

Mary Gonzales (Baker)

Speaking of drivers test, remember having the school teach us how to drive?

I remember Mr. Evans teaching me to drive. What a hoot! He must have had nerves of steel. I wonder why schools quit teaching kids to drive...I'm guessing that the liability must be too much.

I had Mr. Hummelman for Driver's Training. It was me, Stuart Frazier and Brandon Bubel in the car. I had never even started a car before, so of course, Mr. Hummelman said I should go first. Needless to say if I hadn't been so nervous, I would have probably seen the guys laughing their butts off in the back seat! But I did pass...They had Driver's Training at our school here until about 2005 and it didn't cost anything!

Oh man, I really didn't like Mr. Hummelman! He was an ass to say the least. He didn't like my brother and he just assumed I was just like my brother so we did not get along. My family went on vacation in March of my senior year for 6 weeks to Europe and Mr. Hummelman put up such a fight about that. He told my dad that I needed to be in school learning instead of being on vacation. My father told him I would learn a lot traveling around Europe. Mr. Hummelman had to give me all the work I would miss so I could do it while I was gone and I was told I could make up tests when I got back. Well Mr. Hummelman graded me hard on the work and wouldn't let me make up one test (I don't remember his reason for that) so he failed me by 3 or 4 points. I had to retake the class in summer school. My dad was so mad he actually went to the school board about it and Mr. Hummelman got in trouble for it because it was spiteful on his part to fail me. I got to graduate with the class but didn't get my diploma until I completed the class. Yes, he was an ass!

Haha! I had Coach Chapman for Driver's Ed! I took the class with two guys from the Class of 78 (sorry guys, can't remember your names). One of them ended up having to drop the class so there was just two of us. Chapman didn't seem to know that we were not on his football team and would bark at us. I was scared to death especially when he made me go on I-5 from IB...he kept yelling at me to go faster.
Belinda, I loved Mr. Barcus. And, Brian how many hours did we spend at the plunge? Mr. Evans was a great coach. Nick, you nailed it with the Band and Letterettes! We ruled!

Debbie-
I had nothing against Mr. Barcus, except for the fact that whenever I just started to grasp the concept of what we were doing, he'd start on story about Ohio. I always understood it in class and then when I got home, I'd draw a blank. Should have been a clue NOT to take Algebra 2/ Trig, huh? LOL

? Doing what on January 31st? A reunion? :-O Or just a get-together :) I'm hoping just a get together as the 31st would be an insanely short notice for a reunion for those of us that live in other states :-)

Guess I am a little late to the party. Yes I remember Candy Cane lane. You should see my house at Christmas. Then again maybe you can, my kids say I put enough up. Anyway I am really looking forward to the reunion.

I was wondering what those lights in southwest were at the holidays...Texas Christmas lights at the Walston's!

I hope everyone did not eat too much chocolate for Valentines Day.

I just watched the true hollywood show on Mario Lopez. It shared how he started as a 10 year old actor in the bussiness. How he spent alot of time at the Chula Vista YMCA and learned how to wresle. Growing up in Chula Vista and his mother took him to singing and dancing lessons. He attended CV Jr. high and to go to Chula Vista High full time while filming saved by the bell. Gary Chapman was on this interview. My mother worked at Chula High during the years Mario was a student. When he came back for a High school basketball student/teacher fundraiser night. My mom Leona brought my twins to this event. Mario huged and kissed my mom, and my girls couldn't belive their eyes. They told grandma not to ever wash her check again. Hah!!!!

Hello fellow Spartans!

This is so cool! I loved reading the message forum, what a kick. Some of my fondest memories of HS revolve around being on the water polo team and the track team.

Mr. Hummelman... Yeah I remember him. My mom always told me, "If you don't have something nice to say about someone then don't say anything." So I'll say: everytime I see a Ford Granada (which is not often) I think of Mr. Hummelman, and the driver training course, and a smile comes to my face.

Does anyone remember Mr Sanders' (biology class)? "Hot Spit!" and "Take your time, but hurry."

Any of my water polo buddies remember the giant pancake breakfasts at the restaurant on Broadway Ave (near J St or there abouts?

I remember going to my first dance in 10th grade. I was scared to death. I had such a great time I couldn't wait for the next one; you couldn't keep me from going to the dances.

Papa Do-Run-Run - Images of pooka shell necklaces, Hawaiian print shirts, and Ditto jean (for the ladies of course) comes to mind.

Everytime I hear the song by Queen "We are the champions" I think of the pep rallies. Remember Peter Frampton?

Hope all of you are well.

The early morning breakfasts were held at Family House of Pancakes. It is still VERY popular. Lots of people waiting on Sunday mornings. They have strange hours, they close at 2 in the afternoon. They have opened a second location in Nat'l City just off of Plaza and 805 that is open til 10. They still make great pancakes and hugh omelets. One of those places with great food and low prices.

Ok, so is there a date set yet for the big reunion (that I can't attend)? I'm saving up for the 50th. but I'm sure there are some folks trying to make advance plans.

It's been fun reading the forums and the profiles. Wish there were more of us filling them out. If only I could find my yearbooks up in the garage attic... Nah, that would just be scary and make my kids laugh (alot!).

Speaking of kids.... anyone have an available 18ish daughter? My son will be moving down to Chula Vista this summer (I have a problem with his current gf). Just a thought.

Family House of Pancakes! Loved the chocolate chip pancakes.
Terry, I'm just like you, when I hear "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS"...really fond memories. The kids still use it today at ballgames and the kids thought it was cool I had the 'album' LOL
Lori, I think there ARE a few of our fellow classmates with daughters about that age. Check out Facebook for more info LOL

I remember eating two glazed doughnuts everyday at "nutrition" break with Karen Seversike and a carton of milk...I think the doughnuts were .10 cents. Never thought another thing about it...must have been PE everyday...couldn't do that now. How about that fruit machine by the gym...the apples were pretty tasty.

Belinda Duboski (Underhill)

I remember the fruit machine. Haven't thought about it in years. LOL

The fruit machine was great. I ate a large red delicious apple every day. Boy, they were good.

04/09/09 10:49 PM #31

Kathy Krall (Macoubrie)

I remember the little lunch pizzas from Junior High and the brownies. I couldn't always get them because my mom made me pack a lunch usually but when I had money that's what I ate...

Happy Easter everyone!
Plan on joining some freinds
for a pinic out at El Monte Park.
Don't eat too much candy.
Be careful of the rotten eggs.
May you have a wonderful day!

How about the cake from jr high? the marble cake, yum. And definitely the pizza. And they would ALWAYS put the cake slice, frosting side down, on top of the pizza.

05/11/09 09:52 AM #34

Belinda Duboski (Underhill)

Wendy, you are so right about the cake. Always saved the fosting for last...the BEST part! So glad to see new people on here...would love to have you all on Facebook, too!
