My home boys from Park View start their next game  in a half hour.

PARKVIEW WON 16 - 8

An interesting take on the current state of youth sports here

The problem isn't the Little League World Series, it's that we watch it

Could it be that size really does matter after all? I always suspected that Little Leauge teams should have been sigmented by height and weight, not age.

Is it money talking or swearing?

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – A $3.50 airport car rental fee has become a point of contention between the City of Chula Vista and the San Diego Regional Airport Authority and may threaten the $1 billion bayfront project in the South Bay community.

The rental car fee, collected by the airport authority, is supposed to fund the South Bay hotel and convention center’s $40 million parking structure.

At Tuesday evening’s, Chula Vista City Council addressed a lawsuit filed by two rental car companies, who are asking for a court to order the port to stop charging the fee and refund money they’ve already collected.

Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas said the San Diego airport’s governing body is threatening the structure’s funding by supporting the lawsuit. The two rental car companies now operate at the new facility owned by the airport authority.

Hilltop Robert Dodds Field  (I had to look it up too) has undergone a renovation and I have a pair of football pants and leggings (apparently my younger brothers) if anyone is interested. Michele can fit into them, but they're tight on me.

... will reopen with more than $4 million of improvements including a new all-weather field, an eight-lane all-weather track, new shot put and discus rings, new snack bar, new ticket booth, extra storage room, new fencing and cement work and even a new sound system.

“It’s not just a football field — it’s a stadium, a facility,” said Hilltop’s legendary coach and athletic director Nancy Acerrio, who’s been a fixture at the school since 1976. “People are just chomping on the bit to get out there.”

Madeline Bazzel (Hooper)

Hey Bruce, there are two of those Vehicles here in Owls Head Maine at the Museum. They are up for auction. Interested?

08/10/18 04:40 PM #3250

Bruce Wilson

Thanks Madeline. I took a look at the auction. They have a lot of cars there in Maine.

This one is about five years later, but looks nice.

I don't know how serious I am, but I do have a surfboard in the garage (and the water has been right up near 80 degrees in our heatwave).

BTW I did not know Duane was such an accomplished Over The Line player until just  recently. I used to play a bit when I was attending State. South Mission Beach was quite the hangout for college kids.

This 1951 estimated at $85,000 - $100,000.

I had one very much like this, though it was not a convertible and not nearly as nice. Based on the auction estimates of value, I should have put some money in it and made it nicer rather than selling it.

Yes do I was even honored by the city for his accomplishments with Over The Line. His son Brian also plays. My grandson played when he was younger in the Youth Level.

I am very sad that my grandson did not get to play in the new stadium it was all torn up and he just graduated in June.

Madeline, well perhaps he can come back and coach there

Here's the one I sold.

When did you sell your Model A? I saw one recently on BAT (Bring A Trailer) that looked exactly like yours!

Jim:

Model A has been gone about 25 years or so. Sold it for what I paid for it, which was $6k or $7K,. I was going to street rod it, but thought it would be better to let it live out its life original.

From that Aug. 4, 1963 newspaper you mentioned

Les Cherettes, a girls' so Sociables, a boys' club from National City, will present "Dancing Holiday," featuring the Nomads, Saturday from 8 pm. to midnight. The event will take place at the State Armory, 303 Palm Ave. in National City.

I recently ran across some tapes of the Kingsmen (of Louie Louie fame) playing live in Nat'l City and also at Swiss Park.

Dog Day Afternoon (orignal title The Boys in the Bank) had no musical score

Except for the Elton John song that plays over the opening credits (which turns out to be coming from Sonny’s car radio) and a couple of snippets heard elsewhere on radios, there’s no music in the movie.

So

Kay Kozuye Ochi

The first four "Lady Fairs" are Rosebank Elementary pals- Patty, Rosie, Shayne and Kay. What great memories this list brings back.

Terry "sweeps" two categories (congrats, Terry!) and the list made me think about living up to my "prediction" of Most likely to Succeed. Hmmm. Perhaps my volunteer work for over 20 years on restitution to the Japanese Americans who forcibly removed from the West Coast and incarcerated in America's WWII- including my parents. I joined a community group - the National Coalition for Redress/Reparations- in 1980 and encouraged JAs to speak out about their wartime experiences, helped to build a movement. August 10, 2018 marked the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. The U.S government's monetary reparations was token, the President's apology historically significant. It's shared in "NCRR: The Grassroots Struggle for Japanese American Redress and Reparations" published this year by UCLA's Asian American Studies Center. That's enough!  Hope all you Lancers out there are well.

Thanks for your post, Kay. Looking at the list made me wonder about another Rosebank pal; does anyone know anything about John Vredenburg? I'm also curious about Carl Bandelin. I don't think either one has been at any reunions.

Beckwith and I have been searching for John. We've talked to his younger brother. We know John's phone number and we've left messages. He just won't respond and we don't know why. He was and likely is a wonderful friend but he has his reasons for wanting to be left alone, so we respect that. I know he was a successful high school teacher and coach in the Los Angeles area. He attended the five year reunion and that was the last time I saw him. We took our dates to TJ that weekend and dined at the old Octoberfest restaurant that later burned down. My girl friend (now wife Addie) was completely freaked out by Tijuana.

One more thing: Kay's history is extraordinary. I gladly bow down to her as the one who did succeed at a very high level and deserves our praise. We chose wisely!
