Happy Spring.

The Vernal Equinox is at 2:58 pm Pacific Time today.

I assume most of you know the formula for determining Easter Sunday.  Just in case here it is:

First Sunday following the first full moon following the Vernal Equinox.

This formula was set by the early Christians to match the occurrence of Jewish Passover.

That is why there is a wide range of dates where Easter Sunday can occur.

Incidentally, the date of March 21st is assumed to be the Vernal Equinox in the formula.

We had a good rainy season, so far, in the San Diego area. Here is a picture of Cuyamaca Mountain taken from the end of our street in Bonita.  Snow on the mountain has been rare the last few years.

We were out reminiscing about hard  times in the Antamina Mine in Peru. Only one guy came dressed for weather.

You can tell by the hair which one wasn't allowed at the Academy. Thanks for your service T,D,J.

Slow day at the office Mr. Wilson?

Yeah,  waiting for a long running program to stop running.

Finished, but I'll leave this here.

Late April Fools?

Ed Whitlock setting marathon record for eighty year olds

As Warren Zevon said - his hair was perfect

He was the oldest to have cracked 3:00 for a marathon, having done so when he was 69, he was the first to do it past the age of 70 and he owns the 70-74 world record with a 2:54:48 when he was 73. Ed was just getting started ....

Why I am not likely to join the over 70, under three hour marathon club?

He was 5' 7" 112 pounds

Even getting my endocrine system back in shape I am still weighing in at 180

It's a mechanical as well as psychological task

I am quite sad to report that Butch Hindman has passed away. I am kicking myself for not stopping in to visit him.

Butch attended Lilian J Rice and Castle Park Junior High School and served in the military (more later). He scared me 1/2 to death once, but let me off the hook with "it's cool man, I'm not with her anymore".

Where are you Carolyn Coombs?

There were no services.

This is a reminder to take care of business

I only found out about Dowayne's death when I finally went to pay him a visit and found his house up for sale

Butch was wrongfully maligned

He was a Marine Staff Sgt with the 7th Motor Transport Battalion

He never made it to Antamina, but then neither did I

Thanks John.

Three quick responses.

No Michele, but I cannot remember when exactly she was in Hawaii.

And Vredenburgh finally makes an appearance here.

Sure looks like Shayne and is that Jerry Hanano?

John, Thanks so much for posting the 4th, 5th and 6th grade pictures. What a trip down memory lane.

John- What a treat to see the young Lancers in the making. You and John Marsh spent quite a few years in the same classroom. Amazing. Easy to recognize a few of your classmates--they changed little over the years. You just might be the official historian of Rosebank School.

What a trip down memory (or lack of) lane! A lot of nice memories, but can't remember ever being that young. I felt fond of Mr. Casey - so tall! and very nice. It would be fun to put names with the faces (perhaps outside of this blog). . . does anyone feel up to the challenge? Thanks, John, for sharing these.

Hi Kay

If my eyes do not deceive you make three appearances, no wonder you edited the newspaper. :)

That's an interesting notion. There are a number of these old elementary school & junior high, brownie troop, etc fotos. Perhaps I will compile them all as they exist at this time.

Annotations could be added.

I have seen important historical information get lost in another forum where I hang out.

Anyone recognize this young lady or the locale?

Aper

I'm sure everybody recognizes this young gal. Talk about thumbnails, yes that is mine holding up Ruby. She supported me as I in turn supported my mom in the last years of her life.

As did the mystery woman at another beach locale.

So, Kay, I'm accepting your challenge. Some of the names I can add here are guesses, especially as to spelling but all of these faces remind me of years which were for me very happy ones. My apologies to those classmates whose names just escape me. An X seems a little cold...

Sixth grade, left to right by rows:

Tim Fritcher, Mike McCreery., Michele Adney, XX, Kay Ochi, Tommy___, XX, XX, Marilyn Langford

Richard Gonzales, Doug Beckett, XX, XX, John Cowherd, John Vredenburg, Susan Zimdar, Diane Leoni, Sandra Mickshyl

Martin___, Johnny Marsh, John Narcisco (?), Gail Dillion, Mike Shadoan, Patty Leckman, XX, XX, David Huneke

Steve Brown, XX, Anne Chenoweth, Mike Swift

Additions or corrections welcomed. Cheers.

Hi Gail

In high school I knew Sue Zimdar who lived in Pont Loma

I wonder if it could be the same person

Seems likely to me. It's an unusual name. I don't remember anything about her after we left Rosebank.

Vogue Theater 2019 Proposal

Tecture company has now taken over the remodeling of the Vogue theater. The plan is for it to be used for concert, outdoor dining and movies.  The outdoor part is on a parking lot next to the building that Tecture purchased from the City.

Here is a plan from the San Diego Union Tribune:

I ran from almost in  National City to Otay and vice versa today.

Passed the Vogue twice. It looked the same, both times, and compared to years ago.

The Highlander is unrecognizable now that it is a brewery/bar.

E Street & Third Ave is a changin'

There are now two empty lots

Southeast and Northwest corners

They took down the Ray's Shoe store sign that I had tried to buy. :(

No sign of Lanette.

Andie (Joan) Ault (Harvey)

Gail, harkening back to your 4/19 post, I have a couple of fill-ins on the 6th grade pic:  third from the end of the first row is Martha Kilcrease, and the first person in the third row is Martin Austin. So many of the others look familiar, and it makes me cuckoo that I can *almost* remember their names, but not quite. I count these among my "senior moments."  <sigh>

Thanks, Joan (I don't think I ever called you Andie) I don't know how I forgot Martha.

Well it turns out it was Zimdars not Zimdar.

Class of 1964 Point Loma High School.

OK - end the suspense -  she was an underage arrestee (along with yours truly), at the "Fun Nest" on G Street  popularized by The Star News.

Jennifer Beenfeldt took the newpaper to task quite elequently, bless her heart.

Funny thing, the kid whose father instigated the raid, was not even there that night.

So back in 1964 still.

I was talking to a young clerk at the store and noticed she was wearing black Converse low cuts.

I seem to recall paying about $3.00 then.

Am I right?

She said they go for $50.00 now.

Mine were close in size to the guy on the viewers far right. I also had a pair of hi-tops.

Extra credit if you can name all these guys.
