Moved to Rhode Island with Norm Thurston in 1979. Moved back to Cincy in in 1980. Worked at Skyline Chili. Realized I needed to go back to school. Moved to Dayton and attended Ohio Institute of Photography. Realized I wasn't a very good photographer. Went to Wright State while working at the Dayton Art Institute. Was also captain of the sailing team. Graduated with a degree in Art History. Moved to San Francisco in 1988. Worked in an art gallery full time and taught sailing on SF Bay part time. Hated selling art! Loved sailing! Met Julie and fell in love. Got my USCG 100 ton master of sail license. Became director of the Spinnaker Sailing School and Rendezvous Charters. Developed many programs, one of them being Age of Sail which teaches Callifornia maritime history to 4th graders. Realized I loved teaching kids! Went to San Francisco State to get my teaching credential. Realized I loved teaching kids. Got a job teaching Kindergarten and first grade in the Walnut Creek School District in 1995. Had Emily in 2001 and Charlie in 2005. Wondered why I waited all those years. Maybe it took me that long to grow up.
Retired for elementary school in 2022. The pandemic did me in. Now I'm back to teaching sailing and doing charters on the awesome San Francisco Bay!

School Story:

I was in the AV club and was asked to film one of the school football games. The team used the footage to study plays. The camera was rather complicated but after a few lessons from Mr. Park I thought I could handle it. It was a night game and I was stationed on top of the announcer booth. I filmed every play dutifully as best I could taking care to expose and focus correctly. A few days later when the film came back from being developed, Mr. Park came to me to break the bad news that the film was blank! I'm not sure what happened, maybe I forgot to take the lens cap off. Oh well, I should have learned then that photography was not my thing.
