Obituary
Sanford (Sandy) Allen Youkilis, 73, of Miami, Florida passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 21,1943, the son of the late Jack and Florence Youkilis, Sandy was a proud graduate of Walnut Hills High School and the University of Cincinnati where he received his undergraduate degree and Master’s degree in City and Regional planning. He was an active member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. Sandy began his career in city planning with the city of Cincinnati and moved to Miami, Florida in 1980 to work for the historic city of Miami Beach as the Director of Planning. He later moved on to become the Assistant City Manager, Acting City Manager and Director of Planning for Coral Gables, from which he retired in 1998. Sandy continued to be actively involved with city planning as a consultant for South Miami and as an adjunct professor of public administration and financial planning for Barry University. He also served as a municipal administrative hearing officer. He is survived by his daughter Dana Youkilis and his grandson, Ayden Farish of Long Beach, NY, his son Jeremy Youkilis of West Palm Beach, and his brother Gene Youkilis of Highland Park, IL and his loving nieces Claire Shafer, Robin DiPaolo and nephew David Youkilis.
Sandy will be remembered for his exemplary work in the field of City Planning and Management, his significant contributions to the field of historic preservation, his love of good food and his wonderful sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Weil Funeral Home on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 10:00 am.
