"Mac" as he was known to me was one of my very good friends at WHHS. He was a really quietr guy who never seemed to say anything bad about anything or anyone. I alwys envied him because his Dad was the distributor for Barq's products and he could have all the rootbear and cream soda he wanted for free!He was a member of a Fraternity and offered to sponsor me senior year, but he invited me to some of their functions anyway, so I thought"why bother"--but I really appreciated the offer.

I was totally shocked when he sent me a letter just before graduation from college telling me that he had enlisted in the Marines.I always thought of his mild manner and his cross-country running( that was not so popular in the 50's) and he seemed like the last person to become a Marine.

Mac was one of three College Hill "kids" who went thru L-12 together and all three gave their lives in Viet Nam

. I think of Mac often and had the pleasure of getting together several times with his Mother starting at our 40th Reunion in 2011 until her passing last year. She was a beautiful Lady.

A good friend lost.
You are a good friend, Mac. Why the Lord took you and not those of us who remain behind is a question left unanswered until we meet again. I'll see you at the Gates, my friend. Rest in peace.

Hi Mac: Wanted you to know you have been on my thoughts all these years since you paid the ultimate price in Vietnam. I know you're not here, but up there some where looking down on us. Your face from when we were 16 is still very clear to me as we saw each other in the hallways of WHHS. I never knew you were over there until I came back from there. Had the opportunity as a Navy Gunfire Liason Officer on the USS Corry DD-817 to support the Second Marine Divison in I Corps in January 1969 with the New Jersey BB-62. You were gone by then, but hopefully, one of our rounds got the one who got you! I hope! You will always be in my fond memory for doing your duty to serve our country. I will never forget you, and will honor your memory and unselfish service every Veteran's Day and Memorial Day. Sincerely, Bill
