Bob was one of my best friends both at Roosevelt and at Heights. We used to ride our bikes to school together in junior high. I also remember dragging him bodily to La Cave one Friday night in '63 or '64 to watch Phil Oaks and The Blues Project.  He enjoyed Phil Ochs much more, I think.

The last time I saw him was in the eighties. I was in Bloomington on business. We hung out at his house, eating frozen french bread pizza and discussing our lives.

I owed you another visit, Bob. Now it will never be.

Shalom, chaver.

David: I don't know if you remember me. I was in your homeroom at Heights, but we didn't really have much contact with each other.

My memory of you goes back to November 23, 1963. It was the day John Kennedy was assassinated. After the announcement, school was dismissed. I went to my locker, opened it to get my jacket, and stood there crying. I felt someone's arm around my shoulder, turned around, and saw it was you.

So, after more than fifty years I want to say thank you, David. It was a wonderful, human gesture on an otherwise awful day.
