Other places you have lived:

I lived in New York City from 1974-2007... a lifetime and then some. Prior to that I lived in Chicago for 3 years and SF for one year. Spent several months working in and on Venice, Italy for Museum Planet iPad apps. Alas that business didn't make money.

Lived in Denver til late 2017. Now in Santa Fe...the proverbial last stop....also the best place I have ever lived.

What is your favorite memory of your days at CHHS? (good and bad)?

I spent the night I graduated HHS with classmate David Denk (now sadly deceased) and we cruised around as in American Graffiti talking about women and our hopes for the future. Then I had no idea what the 'future' was. Little did either of us know how our lives would go. If only I had known?

What would do differently if you had a second chance at CHHS?

Taken school seriously and tried studying. Learned to box earlier than I did. (I coulda been a contender?) Shouldn't have dodged Vietnam; I would have grown up quicker. Loved the football games and hated Heights High's sometimes ridiculous and pointless discipline.

Are you on Facebook?

Yes

MAX KRAVITZ OBITUARY

KRAVITZ Max Kravitz, 60, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2007. Born November 2, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. Max is survived by his wife of 30 years, Janet Kravitz; and his two sons, Bret and Zachary; his mother, Sylvia Kravitz; his brothers, Jack (Rosa) Kravitz, Larry (Laura) Kravitz, and Philip Kravitz. Max was preceded in death by his father A. Edward Kravitz. Max graduated from Cleveland Heights High School, received his bachelors degree from Ohio State University and his law degree from Capital University Law School. He was a tenured professor at Capital Law School for 30 years and a founding member of the law firm Kravitz, Brown & Dortch, LLC. Max was a member of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, where he served on the Board of Governors. Max was a Life Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and member and past President of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Max was active in improving the conditions of Ohio prisons, and he made positive changes to Ohio's sentencing laws by serving on the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission. He was also actively involved in the federal courts system as a member of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Advisory Committee on Rules. Max was an inspiring professor of law and a skilled advocate for his clients, for whom he worked tirelessly and relentlessly. He fought for the less fortunate and devoted endless hours to those in need. He remained particularly troubled by the lack of funds for indigent defense, and he fought to level the playing field and demanded that the system be fair. He was caring and compassionate and he treated all with dignity and respect. He loved what he did. In addition to the law, his passions included his family, his many, many close friends both locally and across the country, and golf. Anyone who had the opportunity to have Max as their friend was a better person because of his friendship, and to have Max as a friend was to have a friend for life. His lust for life was boundless. He will be sadly missed. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at THE EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main Street, with Rabbi Sharon Mars officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery Temple Isreal Section. Shiva will be observed at the Kravitz residence. a decent finish to a difficult life...indeed....

Forwarded message from Billy Berk:

Some of you may have heard that Victor died. He did, May 16, 2010. I spoke with the coroner's office and was told he died of natural causes, as an indigent, no assets, or family to claim him for burial. Victor's parents died quite a while ago and tragically his younger brother, David, died around a year and a half ago. David's widow has no interest in claiming Victor. It seems for the last many years, 20 for sure, Victor had many difficulties, and only sporadically was in contact with David and his family. The coroner told me that Victor had an extensive medical history, and David, was listed on the hospital forms as next of kin.

By the way, Victor and his family had been living in Denver for the last 25 or 30 years. In Denver, the procedure for burying idigents is that there is a rotation of funeral homes and cemetaries that volunteer to take indigents and see to the burial. Described to me as almost a "boot hill" type burial. These burials are done at a reduced charge.

Several of us old guys that get together periodically were talking and thought that we should try to get Victor buried somewhere near his parents and brother. Stuart Berkowitz, of Berkowitz, Kumin, Bookatz Funeral Home in Cleveland, put us in contact with the Feldman Mortuary, in Denver. We are told, by Feldman, that because of the circumstances of Victor's death that it could request the rotation of burying Victor at the usual indigent cost. Victor would be buried, near his family at the Mt. Nebo Cemetary which is owned by the B.M.H. Synagogue, a rabbi would be hired to say the appropiate prayers,  a very basic head stone would be provided at an additional charge. The cost for the burial is $1,500.00, the basic head stone is $500.00. So, us old guys thought we would send out this request to enough people and ask for a small donation to try and give Victor a decent burial near his family. We were thinking maybe $20.00 dollars or whatever would be a nice token of what we remember, many years ago, about Victor.

I worked with Jay at the Emergency Department of Bess Kaiser Hospital in Portland Oregon in the early Eighties where he was an Emergency MD and I was an RN. We enjoyed our teamwork and worked well together. I also helped him up at his cabin on Skyline Drive at that time. We had friends in common and enjoyed having Jay as a friend outside of work. He was good to his patients and a friend to me. I will only have good memories of him.

David Brown has left an In Memory comment for Jane Blattberg Rush.

Jane Ann (Blattberg) Rush

Camarillo - Jane Ann (Blattberg) Rush passed away at home in the presence of her family and her closest friend on August 16, 2020 after enduring the impacts of Lewy Body Dementia for several years. Jane was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 7, 1946 to Ben and Bernice Blattberg and was raised in New York principally and later in Cleveland, Ohio. She matriculated at the University of Michigan, graduating with a bachelor's degree in English and subsequently attended the City University of New York, achieving a Master's Degree in Education.

Jane's career was varied and rich, typical of her character and interests, beginning with some years teaching elementary school in the Bronx, New York. Afterwards, a family opportunity caused her to spend two years in the Marshall Islands where she gave birth to her daughter, Jessica. Upon returning to the mainland, she established residence in Denver and found that she loved Colorado, the mountains, hiking, camping, all of the outdoors activities found there. For many years while in Colorado, she worked for the District Attorney's Office in Jefferson County, running a diversion program for offenders.

Leaving Denver after 18 years, she moved to San Diego and began a new career path as a major gifts fund raiser at California State University San Marcos. This work came naturally to Jane because she loved being with people and, as she often commented, she could talk with anyone. Her family marveled at her innate capacity to have people tell her their whole life stories, often upon first meeting her. As she said on many occasions, she had a Ph.D. in "schmoozing"! Jane served the University for eight years until she was recruited to become the major gifts fund raiser for the international schools of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). In this capacity, she travelled widely internationally as she developed resources for GIA's students, frequently interacting with individuals who are household names throughout the world.

In 2003, Jane married Richard Rush, the Founding President of California State University Channel Islands and took on additional responsibilities as the first lady of the campus. She was widely loved by students, faculty, and staff and thoroughly enjoyed welcoming them to her home and entertaining them with her stories and her particular interest in each of them.

Yet, with all of her varied accomplishments, the title most precious to Jane was her grandchildren's reference to her as "GJ," Grandma Jane! She loved the hours she spent with them down on the floor playing hot wheels (she had her own set!), cooking with their help, and cuddling with them as they confided their tall tales to her. As they have grown, she had enormous delight in their lives and burst with pride at the burgeoning adults they are becoming.

The pride of Jane's life, unquestionably, was her daughter, Jessica. She treasured the adventures they shared as she raised her as a single parent in Denver and she glowed with unending pleasure as she observed the woman and mother Jessica has become, frequently extolling to her friends her daughter's professional achievements in health care as well.

Jane is survived by her husband, Richard Rush, her daughter and son-in-law, Peter Barker, her step daughters Angela Goodwin and Melissa McCormick and their husbands Brian Goodwin and Douglas McCormick and her seven grandchildren. A private celebration of her life will occur when Covid restrictions are lifted.

Sandra Jacob Bruck, 69, of Tampa, Fla., passed away Oct. 14, 2015. She will be remembered for her loving and fierce devotion to family and friends. She relished having them close by and spent many holidays hosting memorable dinner parties for them. Even as her health diminished, she maintained these traditions with the help of her husband, family and friends.

Sandra grew up in Cleveland Heights and was the daughter of Charles and Ruth Jacob (both deceased). The eldest of three children, she was courageous and confident, taking time during her college years to explore life in the Big Apple. Upon her return to Cleveland, she met her husband, David, originally from New York when he was attending dental school at Case Western. They moved to Tampa in 1974, where they raised four children, all Berkeley Preparatory School graduates, and built a thriving dental practice.

Along with her loving husband of 43 years, Sandra is survived by four devoted children: daughter, Carly Bruck Qureshi (Bilal) of Chicago and three sons, Jonathan (Cristel) of San Francisco, Kyle of Chicago, Chas (Taryn) of Tampa; younger sister, Karen Jacob of Cleveland; and brother, Gary Jacob of Cleveland. She will be forever missed by her caring nieces and nephews, many cousins, dearest Cleveland and Tampa friends, and her “pride and joy” her six grandchildren Harold, 8, Madeleine, 5, Sydney, 2, Ysee, 1, Colton, 1, and Alexander, 10 months. Remember “Grandma loves you.”

Services honoring the love and life of Sandra were held in Tampa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sandra Bruck Child Care Center at the JCC, 13009 Community Campus Drive, Tampa, FL 33625.
