My first waitress job was at Mawby's- Cedar Center.  I was part of that Motley Crew. Boy did I stink of grilled onions when I went home!  Then I moved 4 doors down at waitressed at Corky and Lenny's for 14 yrs..........and smelled like corned beef!!!

As another everyday diner at Mawby's, I still remember the "grilled dill" burgers and the impossibly tall beehive on the waitress.... What was her name?  I'm reminded of a classic "Pee Wee Herman" schtick:

PeeWee: (Shocked) "Miss Yvonne.... Your hair is so big!"

Miss Yvonne: (Coyly) "Oh, THANK you Pee Wee!"

The other ones must have opened after I left Cleveland. Every day I ate a plate of fries loaded with seasoned salt.

I still eat them that way.

It is rough getting older and losing the people you Love ! Today we lost a great guy who I worked with for years. Steve Popovich 68 was the owner of Cleveland International Records ..I worked and was a part of the breaking of the Artist ...Meatloaf "Bat Out Of Hell Album" I was the head of Epic / CBS Labels handling the National Radio promotion out of LA. CA and Steve was my man who took good care of me at the time and for years after ...he owned Cleveland international Records and discovered Meatloaf ! You will be reading about this soon in the local Cleveland News papers but at the end of the day we lost a great record man. The passion and vision he brought to everything he believed in was an inspiration. He will be missed ! He had a heart of Platinum ...Rest in peace Steve ..and I will see you on the Charts my man !

Please Note: 43 million Albums and CD's worldwide..BAT OUT OF HELL" ALBUM Epic / Cleveland International Records (Steve Popaviches Label)

Condolences to the Lader family (John and Jim HHS '67) on the recent death of their father, Maurice (96-1/2 years old).  I attended the funeral yesterday at the Mayfield Masoleum.  I had never been there before; it is a beautiful building.  Pat Corrigan is the cemetary manager.  My family visited the Lader family on Sunday evening and spent time with Mrs. Lader (what a remarkable woman - only 90 years young), John and family and brother, Jim.  Good to meet John's wife and stepson.  Both sons spoke beautiful words about their father - what a wonderful life.

Wasn't that Shaker-Heights football game, our senior year,  changed to an afternoon game because the powers to be decided that they were afraid of rioting after the game? Just checking, before I lose any more of my short term memory. Pat, no bike trips planned this summer. I enjoyed the pictures, as I don't make it off this rock too often.

Charles, (Chuck) Balcher

Now that our Cleveland Heights High School chat group has dwindled to a smaller, more intimate size of our closest friends, there is one thing that I have been  dying to ask someone. The only problem is I forgot who I was going to ask and what I was going to ask them. Oh well!

Sorry to report the death of Dr. Howard Kremm, History & International Relations teacher at HHS, at the age of 99.  I still remember the purple socks and cordovan shoes he always wore.  I also remember he required us to subscribe to "The New Republic" which was a real eye opener for me.
