Charles, (Chuck) Balcher

My memory of the teachers and experiences at Heights are very limited compared to Roosevelt. I did work at Gails Bi-Rite grocery store, on Lee Rd., after school for three years. I do remember in 12th grade, my chemistry teacher asking me to give him the burnig red hot flask, which I was holding with some forceps. I deposited it in his bare hands. I'm sure that must have hurt, because of the dirty look he gave me. I also hate, that we had to disect that pig. We each had a partner, who I let do all the gruesome, gory work, while I looked the other way.

Hi all - Normally I am a pretty quiet, private person, but I couldn't help noticing that Millikin and Monticello are really not well represented. It seems that everyone is from Roosevelt or Roxboro or Wiley. So I though I would put my 2 cents in (which is about all I can afford these days) and remind everyone that there really was a fourth junior high feeding into Heights!

Shelly Hornik - Do you remember me? I sure remember you. Besides all our great choir memories, do you remeber that we used to cut school and just hang out all day? Those were the days.....

I have enjoyed reading this lengthy message forum - just found it last week. I would love to join some of the get-togethers but will be traveling for a bit. I could do anything after mid-July. So I will keep reading and figure out when there is a lunch or dinner that I can attend.

Hi All

I too would love to join the lunch or dinner gathering but am traveling till the middle of July. Hopefully you will plan something for the beginning of August when I know that I will be back in town.

Harla, Bonnie and Sue:

Thanks for the idea of writing down the books that you have read. So I decided to start a list of everything that I have read since spring. Being on summer break gives me more time to read, especially since we are taking trips for the next 3 weeks by car and air. Let me know if you have read any great books that I can add to my collection. Too often I getto the library or Borders and find out that I already read a particular book. I just finished two facinating books: Icy Sparks and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.

Hi ya'll,

Shelly....I'm shocked! Bad girls bad girls what you gonna do when they come for you....bad girls......

Beth, have fun when you get to town. I'm sure you'll have a good time between my crazy peeps (Joyce, Sandy, Gracia, ok you too Louie!) and your family.

Mindy, it's good that we now have representation from Monticello. Chuck, I'm like you, I remember more from Roosevelt than Heights. I think it was so big and also I had a boyfriend from Cleveland State so it was not my entire focus. In jr. high my whole life revolved around my peeps and school.

I am sooo excited for the reunion to see everyone!

Hey Mindy...

I remember you from Monty and HHS too. You're right...not too many of us on the board, but I keep up with it and throw in my two cents every so often. Nice to see you here.

Quiet early morning in the ER ...
I haven't had a chance to check into the website for awhile. You guys are all so comforting and so entertaining! I wish I could get up there before October for one of your get-togethers.

I went to a friend's "celebration of life" last winter. His daughter described her dad's binder listing every book he had read since he married her mom in the early '70s. She could follow eras in her dad's life.

While I'm on the subject, there ought to be some alarm that lights up any time a name is added to the Memory page. I didn't check the site for a month and 6-7 names were added -> 59 names?!@#$!

I've been reading (and listening to books-on-tape/CD) more and more as I've been getting older. Why is that? More attempts/excuses to relax?
A patient introduced me to the Kellermans years ago and I am still trying to read all of their stuff. I also am fond Patterson.
And then there's the fun Evanovich "brain candy".
Has anybody read "Secret Hunters" by Ranulph Fiennes? It's not the best quality writing, but it sticks with you forever.
Looking forward to seeing you all in October!!

Louie,
your name is at the bottom again.
Mindy,
I remember you! How are you?

Since I started reading this my brain has been in overdrive, trying to remember some of the stuff I am reading about, but it's still all jumbled up in there somewhere. I basically have always had pretty good memories of my childhood and teen years - nothing specific - just a nice warm feeling. I really think that we were so lucky to grow up when we did - everything is far more complicated now.
As I get older, I actually find that I am far more at peace than ever before. When I turned 40 (and you all know how long ago that was), I remember that I decided that I was who I was - that I was never going to get taller, a lot thinner or blonder, and that I actually liked who I was. That feeling has stayed with me since then, and I believe it has made me a better, kinder person. I kind of adopted the attitude that I am who I am - take it or leave it. There is a certain freedom in that attitude that allows one to truly just be.
I lived in the mountains of Colorado (Steamboat Springs to be exact) for 10 years. It was a truly wonderful place to be and an unbelievably great place for my kids to grow up. The closest mall was 3 hours away and the closest freeway was 90 minutes (unless there was a blizzard and then you just couldn't get there or anywhere). Life in Steamboat really changed my whole view on life and since I have returned to Cleveland, I find that sometimes I have to struggle to keep that view.
During those ten years my closest friend's son died of lymphoma at the age of 19 and I learned that very little of what we worry and fret about is important. If your kids are healthy and your family is mostly well, life is good. Stuff is just stuff.
Enough rambling - can't wait for the next lunch or dinner that I will be able to attend. I am looking forward to reestablishing old friendships and maybe making some new ones.

Mindy,

While I don't have a clear memory of you, I read your post and couldn't agree with you more! I, like you, have mellowed, accepted, looked back with closure and just been able to truly; 'NOT SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF' YOU ARE RIGHT, IT IS A TREMENDOUS FREEDOM!! Being a type A person, it has been an incredibly healthy place for me to rest in at this time.

Life does present its challenges. Death has a way of re ordering life very quickly. This is not a grim realization as much as it adds to our own peace and well being.

The reconnection with Hts friends and acquaintences has really colored my life the past few months. Remembering the fun, laughs and being reminded of things long forgotten has been full of laughs and wonderful moments for me.

I am looking forward to seeing people when I am in Cleveland in about 3 weeks. I am so struck with the amazing reconnection with friends I have been chatting with over the months and recent weeks. Most sincerely, Sandy Beksa, Rachelle N, Rita and 'Loving and Crazy Louie' as well. There are others I have exchanged messages with who won't be in Cleveland in July but remain significant to be back in touch with now.

This forum has been an interesting place to catch up with people and discuss what was, what is and possible what will be. We remain an incredibly significant group of baby boomers from the 60's!! That will never change. Tom Brokaw wrote a book titled 'The Greatest Generation' and although it refers to our parents generation, it could, by title, very well be about us. WE changed the very core of what was!!

Enough rambling for me to...thanks Mindy for the opening

Here's my $.02 worth. Where is the cents key on the keyboard??????

As girls and then women, we spent so many years trying to be perfect and be what we were never meant to be, so sad. I think it takes getting older along with life experience to make us just appreciate being alive and as healthy as we can be. Having just lost both my parents has once again made me realize how fleeting life can be. It's never too late to make it the best life it can be and that is truly my intention, once I get some energy!!

MINDY,
I also live in Solon and recognize your HS photo but can't remember much else, oy.

To all of you who remember me - Wow - I am impressed.

Bonnie - Now that you mentioned BBG, I have another thing I have to search the memory bank for! While I did remember you, I had no recollection of ever being in BBG.

Louie - Keep having fun. We have certainly reached the point in life where we deserve it. If people don't like what you have to say they don't have to read it. If I don't like something on the radio or television, I just change the channel. I don't petition the FCC to remove it! Just as I refuse to change to fit anyone's expectations, I don't expect anyone else to change to fit mine.

So have as much or as little fun as you want. As we are all reminded more and more each day as we get older - life is short and you just never know when your number is up!!!

Bonnie - I definitely was in Hatikvah BBG. It's just that I hadn't thought about it in so long, I forgot. You just reminded me. Obviously your memory is better than mine. Who else was in with us?
