Now that I have found this forum and so many old and new friends, I wish I could join for lunch. But I have to go to Canada for my daughter's "Welcome to Canada" party. She married a Canadian and after a very long wait has finally received her permanent resident status, so friends are throwing a huge party.
After mid-July when I return from my road trip to Colorado I am going to try to attend some of these little get togethers. Can't wait!

Joel...

There's a 1948 animated Jello-O commercial on You Tube with a Chinese baby trying to eat Jell-o with chopsticks without success, until the mother gives him a spoon. Is this the one you had in mind?

And since Joel brought up early morning television who remembers the animated series Tom Terrific which was originally broadcast on the Captain Kangaroo show from 1957-1959 then in reruns after that? There was a host of characters besides Tom including Mighty Manfred the Wonder Dog, and Tom's arch-enemy Crabby Appleton (who was Rotten to the Core)

"I'm Tom Terrific, greatest hero ever.
Terrific is the name for me 'cause I'm so clever"

Anyone remember the rest?

Wikipedia has a good article for those who want more info.

Great stuff.

Just reading all of your responses and have to agree that life is so short. I had a cousin that was like a sister to me and she passed away at age 39 about 25 years ago. At that point I started looking at life alot different. Seeing our parents thatare still alive you appreciate the quality of life. MINDY- i do remember you and I see your parents all the time.

Whoa, Bill....

Tom Terrific.... Wow! What a blast...

I Remember Tom but cannot recall the lyrics...

Didn't he wear a funnel for a hat?

Here's one that most do not remember... (or I was hallucinating)

Anyone remember Spunky & Tadpole? It was a cartoon I watched in the '50's... Right after "Rex Humbard"... who was always trying to sell me a prayer cloth...

What the heck is a prayer cloth, anyway?

I remember sitting waiting patiently for Rex to finish up so Spunky could start...

Ok, Bill.... Remember this one? Finish the line.. "God is the answer... Matters not what it may be.....

MITCH Boy, The Bishop Fulton Sheen you can add to the Million Dollar preacher Bucket List along with Rex Humbard and my favorite The great of all time scam artists Reverand Ike!.. The bishop Fulton Sheen was slick , smooth and legit ! He was my man he wore a killer Yam-aka ( with a tousle on top - Love that ) and a great cape and nice flashy (threads)!. Plus he did the shock sucker punch to cure all your ailments ( the laying of hands with a quick jab to the forehead ) and people would be nocked to the floor! WoW !! what great drama! Brilliant! ..YES!! .. LOVED IT!..I miss great TV! Over @ Out (and in this case definatly out cold)!!!!!

We thought we were so great..we made our own costumes and sang "Moon River"....never even got a call to appear on the show! Broke our hearts!I would have been the next(first?!?) Fantasia or Clay Aiken!?!

OK, sleepy heads, it's time to wake up. Our 1969, CHHS, class of 1119 students, was really unique and special. I'm proud to be one of us. They didn't start tearing down the elementary schools until after we left. Our class was bigger than many cities. Most national merit scholars, highest percentage of students entering college, most powerful sports team in the LEL, and Pat C., as our president. What more could we ask for? Brush, Shaker, Euclid...., could they really compare to us. I don't think so. Indians, Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes; and this was all before Vietnam. All we had to deal with, was the Russian threat. We were so naive.

update on the Gene Carroll audition....not that anyone cares...but in case Gloria reads this and goes "huh"?...it wasn't Moon River but Happy Talk from South Pacific!

I also liked "Popeye" with Lynn Shelton. Met them at a state fair and lied and said I ate spinach. I hated veggies. My grandmother made me a big plate of spinach when we got home. Have been eating it ever since.

I only sing in the shower. Doesn't sound very good and looks worse.

Best slow dance song of the 60's; "On Broadway".

Mindy S. Brody (Lapine)

I loved Gene Carroll - never missed it. But I sure never had the guts to try out! Isn't that where Lesley Gore started or am I thinking of some other variety show or some other singer? As I recall, it was on Sunday mornings and followed by polka varieties, which my grandmother loved to watch.

What about Death Valley Days sponsered by Twenty Mule Team Borax, Gayle Storm Show, Mickey Mouse Club - every boy in our class remembers when Kennedy was shot and Annette Funnicello started to "fill out", Dennis the Menace, My Favorite Martian loved the antenae!

Louie - You can start posting again. we will raise you from PG-13 to R. But no X.

Speaking of old TV days, during the winter we'd occasionally get this weird temperature inversion over Lake Erie. That allowed us to pick up Channel 13 out of St. Thomas, Ontario, which had some pretty unusual programming compared to U.S. fare. My brother and I loved to watch box lacrosse on Sundays, which is lacrosse played on a hockey rink with the ice removed. That was one wicked sport - plenty of mayhem in a confined area.
