Sandie Kanter (Fine)

How about Rocky and Bullwinkle. Was that the show where they always had the proverb at the end by the dog or was that a different show. It's not fun just having bits and pieces and not the whole memory. How do some of you remember so much and with so much detail, share your secret. Gingko?

Ok, here are some of the oldies and goodies I remember...

Saturday morning was 'Fury,' the story of a boy and the horse that loved him. 'Sky King' with a character named Penny.

We of course remember our own Captain Penny, who offed himself and the local and loco Mr. Jing-A-Ling.

Sunday night was Bonanza and of course; how many of us saw the REAL debut of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show!! Twilight Zone currently running on Sci Fi and Outer Limits as well. The Hitchcock episode that scared the hell out of me as a kid was the Chatty Cathy doll who talked about killing the girl who owned her. My younger sister had one and we were scared for weeks!! LOL

We were not allowed to watch Masterpiece Theatre

Chuck,

You are so right! We really were naive'. Do you rem Civil Defence drills in elem school? We had to get under our desks and protect our necks in case the Russians dropped a bomb on us...Like our arms over our necks would save us from a bomb????? Now we hope we won't get nuked....a real threat!! and of course...hope Hawaii is going to be highly protected from the crazies in Korea!!

We did not have drills like that at taylor..... But Taylor was built like a brick castle....

Talk about being naive!! Who remembers lining up with our whole families to get the first oral polio vaccine? Thinking back-nobody really knew what they were giving us, but we all trusted our government to not poison us. Imagine trying to do that today!

The thing I remember about the first oral polio vaccine was as a boy scout (Troup 196 for about 1 year) we gave it out at Roosevelt in the girls gym.... Sugar cubes except for those who could not have sugar... It was so bitter that the kids who could not have it in a cube cried all the way out.... It was a strange time... I remember going downtown by myself to the movies when I was about 9 or 10....

Mindy, you are right...sunday morning followed by polka varities...not sure about lesley gore...but there were a few locals who went BIG(hear that Joel?!)...i think a guy named ray sapperrito and some chick whose name may come to me by the reunion. It did take guts to go down there...gloria and i were SURE that we were on our way to stardom and then.....NO PHONE CALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

06/18/09 02:17 PM #1965

Joyce Shrallow (Presser)

The chick who made it BIG was andrea carroll and if my memory is good there was some controversary if she was related to gene-wasn't her big hit "please don't talk to the lifeguards"?

06/18/09 02:25 PM #1966

John M. Lader

Joel, Norman Greenbaum's from Cleveland??????

I think prior to his stellar break-out career he was part of Dr. West and His Junk Band. Their big hit was "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago". One of my all time favorite songs. Funny that's perhaps why I ended up moving to Chicago in '73.

And who can forget Ray Steven's memoriable "Guitarzan"????

06/18/09 02:26 PM #1967

Mindy S. Brody (Lapine)

Joyce - I think you are right. I don't know where I got Lesley Gore. I've given up trying to figure out how my brain operates. Isn't it strange that we remember some things so clearly and other things are just gone? I remember lining up for the polio vaccine, but don't ask me what I had for dinner yesterday!!!

Scott Poffenberger (Poffenberger)

Wow!.... What fun!

Joyce... I remember Ray Saphorita.... "Every little boy just longs to be... Big and strong like Herk, Hercules"
And Andrea Carrol (She took Carrol as a stage name to honor Gene)"Please don't talk to the lifguard... says the sign where I go to Swiiiiiim.... oh oh oh oh "

Beth - I also was scared witless by that doll.. "My name is Talking Tina... and I'm going to kill you"

Why is it that I can remember this stuff and yet I often find myself standing in a room trying to remember why I walked in there?

06/18/09 05:35 PM #1970

Beth Nehamkin

SCOTT!!!! THAT WAS THE EPISODE!!!!!! HOW FUNNY!! I thought I was the only one, besides my younger sister, who was afraid the doll would throw me down the steps!!!!

She prob still has it being too afraid to throw it out or give it away!!!

and as far as walking in a room and not remembering why....I am glad I can remember where the room is!!!!

I have been following the message boards for awhile but this is the first time I'm attempting to join in. I am a complete computer moron! Computers are the devil! Does anyone out there remember me? Is the lunch get together still on for tomorrow? Last I remember The Mad Grrek was on Coventry. Is it still there? Why does the date & time say 6/19 at 3PM. I thought it was still 6/18 at 10PM. Have I missed a day?

06/18/09 11:03 PM #1977

Beth Nehamkin

A voice from MY past HI LINDA!! SOOO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Will you be around July 9for Fishers?

06/18/09 11:24 PM #1978

Linda Fierman (Joynt)

Hi Beth! When do you all meet at Fishers? I'd like to try and be there. Just reading all these conversations makes me want to reconnect.

06/18/09 11:26 PM #1979

Linda Fierman (Joynt)

How come when I write something the
Edit & Delete button stays on? I told you I was a computer moron! Even my children say that I shouldn't be allowed around technology!

06/18/09 11:40 PM #1980

Bill Kent

Linda...

At the top of the Message Forum page there's a box where you can change the time zone. Change it to whatever yours is. Of course your computer should be set for the correct date and time. I assume you know how to do that. If not, ask your kids.

Everyone who posts a comment has the Edit and Delete options showing on their OWN comment box. Only YOU can see those options on the comment(s) YOU post. That allows you to change a comment or delete it after you post it.

06/18/09 11:43 PM #1981

Linda Fierman (Joynt)

It just occurred to me that the edit & delete button only shows up on my screen. Is anyone else this stupid?

06/19/09 02:23 AM #1982

Clare Kelemen

Linda, I remember you. You were always perky with a smile!

Lesley Gore...."when Johnny comes back to me".. I still have that vinyl!!

I am impressed by all those collective memories. I too walk into rooms asking what I
meant to do once I get there!.

I loved Soupie Sales and don't say bad things about him cuz I think he was my 1st crush! I liked Sky King too (no crush). Thanks for the memories!
