Flash bulletin, 7/23/19: After seven years as website editor for the U.S. National Guard (nationalguard.mil), I will be retiring Aug. 30. The National Guard is very mission-oriented, neighbors helping neighbors, and it's been a pleasure to help publicize its mission.
But it's time now to attend those morning gym classes and get in better shape for skiing! Not to mention weekday Harley rides in the beautiful Virginia countryside.
Flash bulletin: After 30 years with USA TODAY, and helping found the newspaper, I retired Aug. 31, 2012, to begin as the web editor for The National Guard (nationalguard.mil) Career No. 2, here we go...
After editing The Black & Gold, I followed my dream of becoming a newspaperman, starting at the Chicago Daily News, doing a tryout at the National Enquirer after the Chicago paper folded (a great adventure) and then moving East, where I was a founder of USA TODAY.
I discovered I was an adrenaline junkie, becoming a volunteer fire chief, ski patroller and avid motorcyclist.
I've been a Red Cross volunteer instructor since 1970 and now devote a lot of time to teaching CPR and AED use. Please, take a class if you haven't done so already. Protect your loved ones - know what to do in an emergency.
My family life has had more than its share of tragedies: I lost my young wife to breast cancer in 2001, raised three daughters on my own and then in 2006, my precious disabled daughter Cassie passed away at the age of 17.
Dear friends, many dating from CHHS, have helped me get through the downs and shared the ups.
I have attended most of the reunions and hope to see you in October.
I spent a lot of time in the big circular wastebaskets -- which I couldn't get out of. Stuart Feldheim and Bill Palda would grab me and "throw me away."
Then there were the pies in the face senior year, from Stuart and Jeff Bain. Oh, the memories ...

Dear Peggy, I hope your pandemic birthday was as good as possible. I’m now in Naples, Florida, glad to be away from snow and cold weather. Rick Greene is two hours away in Sarasota and if and when covid is a memory, we’re going to get together. Stay well, dear friend.
So glad to have attended our 50th Class Reunion. I made some new friends, learned that one of our classmates used to climb the outside walls ("Free Solo" at our alma mater!) and that another had been kidnapped. Holy shit, right?

Happy birthday, Cherie! Hope you will attend our big reunion this year. Steve
Sherman was a quirky and likeable classmate who I remember well from Belvoir School. We got in trouble once for saying the Pledge of Allegiance too loudly in an assembly. Can you image a more unlikely duo of trouble-makers? I think the principal lectured us, ignoring our pleas of patriotism.
Thanks, Reunion Committee, for putting on another great bash. I had a wonderful time with old friends and meeting different classmates. Best to all, Steve
