I was only at CHHS for two semesters and summer school. I grew up in New York City and I was a counter cultural teenage rebel into as much free love as I could get and I was the teenage nightmare from hell for my single mom. So she packed me off to live with my alcoholic uncle in Cleveland Heights who was gonna get me in shape. I arrived in CH with anti-war rage, rock and roll religion and long hippy hair, which CHHS made me cut right away before they'd enroll me. I was kind of an outsider and only spent a short time in Cleveland. I do remember that compared to the rest of Ohio, Cleveland seemed an island of enlightenment. There were great rock concerts and some fine architecture, too. I had to take junior English and senior English in the
same year. I aced senior English but I had a right-wing junior English teacher who I called a reactionary asshole to his face in front of the entire class. He flunked me and I had to go to summer school and repeat junior English to get my diploma. Hmmm...was his name Mr. Heinz?
